This part is true. If the lob is the only weapon that effectively works for you it can be taken away and has for the most part.

Until Gobert has a go to move, whether it be by post up, or facing the basket Quin can't call a play for Gobert.

A play for Gobert at this point consists of running a play where a pass/lob to Gobert involves timing and motion and Gobert being within a few feet of the basket. You can't just give Gobert the ball, clear out, and say "go to work big guy". Any play for him now is a choose your own adventure where one of the 5 options is Gobert. This is why DM gets the ball at the end. He can take it and create a shot out of nothing. He is a "content creator" to put it into Jazzfanz lingo.

The easiest thing Gobert can do on his own is learn to shoot from 10-15 feet. This involves nobody else for the most part, and does not involve trying to post up against shorter and thicker people that will undercut you, steal your balance, and force a pass out or flailed shot attempt. I don't see a post up move other than a super sky hook as useful for him, but I see a mid range shot he can actually hit as something to keep the defense honest which may create a lane if he can handle a dribble or two. I do think he can handle a dribble or two.

I think Rudy's comments were really directed at Donovan. Donovan is the guy who has the ball in 4th quarters and drives time and again. It's like Rudy is saying he feels a bit neglected on offense when Donovan takes over.

Rudy cares about his individual recognition. He was down trodden about missing the All Star game last year. He knows he needs to be seen as a solid offensive player to get that recognition this year.

It’s absolutely just as likely that he’s talking to the whole team of ball handlers. How may times has Bojan thrown a lob or a pass into the post when Rudy has good position? How many times for Conley?

Every year under Q we’ve seen that the offense is very cerebral and therefore slow to take shape. When you’re a player like Rudy, who feeds only when others set him up, you’re the last part to be well-utilized by a slowly evolving system.

I think it’s pretty ridiculous to claim that he’s singling out anyone in particular. Or that there’s sufficient evidence to disagree with the claim that he isn’t also challenging himself to do better/be in better spots.

Leave it to JFC to make a mountain out of this molehill.

Donovan is on a tear and is efficient this year, so he's not talking about Donovan. The issue right now for Rudy has got to be Conley. When Rudy looks at Conley bricking or turning the ball over he probably wonders why he isn't being given the latitude to work on his offensive game too. He probably figures he can provide more than what Conley's been giving. But Conley needs to continue to be given a chance to fail because that's the only way he's going to evolve into his comfort zone. And Conley evolving is more important than Rudy evolving. Rudy just needs to be patient, his offensive production will go up when the rest of the team is clicking.

Snyder's teams start slow and struggle to shoot well early so to hard practices. Players after more fatigue and over thinking things. This leads to missed open shots and slow offense. It will fix itself. Teams are packing in against us still and we aren't making them pay consistently, we will. That will open things up for Rudy. The game will slow down for the new players as well.

Poor timing IMO as lobs to the rim are some of the hardest to perfect (Ingles is the master at this). Probably something said in the heat of the moment after a tough loss ala Jermaine Whitehead. But unlike that one, this is really much ado about nothing. Rubio was the worst at this play and Gobert adjusted, Conley is used to playing with a stretch five and just needs a few more reps.

I think Rudy is giving himself a bit too much credit here. He can finish the lob as well as anyone, but but his "catch, make a move, and finish" game is still pretty ugly.

And the drop big defense has given us fits for 2+ years. We should be able to attack it better now with shooters all over the floor, but it's still going to impact his offensive productivity.

Then the jazz guards and wings need to make them pay for that style of play, which will open things up for Gobert in the middle.
