Rumor: Jazz prepared to match 'any offer' for Hayward.

By this logic, every player coming off a rookie deal should be maxed.

I cant wait till next year when we max burks and kanter

Jeremy evans was really screwed on his rookie deal.... he should be getting about 10 million per year right now to pay him back for such a small rookie contract

I didn't say that. I'm saying players coming off rookie contracts get paid more, because there is more $ to spend across the league. Honestly, a lot of rookies get screwed.

I see

So then i agree hayward should get overpaid..... something like 11 million would be overpaid
Sounds good to me

I listened to that Locke piece also. What a load of bs. Him claiming that Jazz fanz have NEVER liked a player. We all liked DWill, millsap, korver, and even boozer at one point. Kazz fans don't have any duty to salivate over every overpaid jazz player. Locke is a dick smash...

I didn't hear the interview but based on his supposed comments I totally agree with him. Jazz fans drive me INSANE with how they always bitch and bitch about our players. Nothing is ever good enough.

WE never bitched about Stockton, Malone and Hornacek. But we do take offense to players who don't always give 100%, don't give a damn about playing defense, or don't show an ounce of loyalty. There might not be a squad as universally loved by their fan base as the Jazz' 2003-04 team. Didn't make the playoffs, but damn how they overachieved!

Did you see the Jazz play last year??? We have reason to complain.

Haha. Fair enough. At least it isn't our money.

The fact is, there is no way Hayward is going anywhere else. He'd have to give up his huge contract with Bailey's Moving & Storage.

Well, what is your definition of we. All the fans bitched and booed when Stockton was drafted. I heard so many complaints about Malone from other fans. Mostly due to his off court antics, but I think you are romanticizing the way Utah fans are with prior players.

Edit: While fans didn't bitch about the 2003 team, they didn't support them that well either. I went to more games that year than any other year. Lower bowl tickets were super easy to come by.

Myself and most of the people i talk to about the jazz love hayward burks trey favors kanter gobert evans and exum

Only bitching with Malone was when he would play out contract negotiations in the media and complain about being underpaid. Fans may have booed the actual draft of Stockton, but we adored him after that. Locke saying we never liked a player is disingenuous. Abach made a list of recent players. You can add several others to that. I'd say the majority of fans liked Okur and Harpring - except the last couple of seasons when they were hurt. WE adored AK until about 2 years after his MAX contract. I can't COUNT the number of nasty names I was called for suggesting he be traded. And then about a year later, the opinion of the board started to swing 180 degrees on that issue. Locke is an idiot. The fans have liked and supported MAY players over the years. But yes, when we see a player half-assing it on the court, of course we voice our displeasure.

Ya, two hall of famers. Anything else isn't good enough.

This is for GVC, can Hayward be offered 5 years by Utah but not the max?

I'll take a crack at this, but I defer to GVC's final ruling.

Bird Free Agents can get 5 years at any negotiated salary. The "5 Year Max" thing I think you're talking about only applies to extensions. Like, Paul George was 'designated' allowing Indiana to sign him to a Max Extension before he hit his RFA.

So the Jazz can, theoretically, counter any MAX offer sheet with a 5 year offer to Hayward with a more favorable salary structure to the team. I have no idea why Hayward would agree to that, but they can try.

What are you talking about? Maybe not Stockton except for booing his selection. Malone got a ton of criticism and still does. Hornacek was probably more like Stockton. The thing that upsets me the most about Jazz fans is how they get their feelings hurt if a player leaves. So they boo him for leaving. Instead when former players come back they should be polite and cheer them or ignore them. Booing just makes Jazz fans seem petty. THere are a few exceptions but overall stop whining about players leaving. Locke is a tool and he is paid to be one.
