Rumor: Jazz prepared to match 'any offer' for Hayward.

Cleveland's belief that Utah will match any Hayward offer sheet is strongly discouraging Cavs from extending one, league sources tell Yahoo.

This is all so damn stupid. If putting it out there that they will match any offer will scare teams off from signing your RFA, why wouldn't every team with a RFA say exactly that? Too easy. If you think you can and should attempt to sign a guy, to hell with the 3 day period where you're tied up - make the offer and take your chances. Either that or just get the hell out of the business of signing RFAs.

Based on their play it's hard to argue Hayward is better than Lance. In fact I don't think he is. It's the other stuff that is a problem. Locker room, distractions, and immaturity on the court, those make him a bigger risk than Hayward.
.
I'm iffy on Stephenson. But if it's Lance at 10M or Hayward at MAX, I'm taking Lance.
Is Lance a SF?
We're pretty set at the 1/2 with a rotation of Burke, Burks and Exum.

They do. The market for good RFA's is usually pretty weak. I remember Lakers took a chance with Hibbert by offering him the MAX, which Indiana matched. Cleveland doesn't want their money tied up through July 13th with no ability to go to Plan B. Other FA's aren't going to wait around to be the Cavs' door prize if Utah matches.

This could also be an agent smokescreen. Maybe Bartlestein told Cleveland Hayward would sign an offer sheet if it were for the MAX. Cleveland doesn't want to pay that much. But the leak is that Hayward is discussing a MAX deal with Cleveland (which would technically be correct if Hayward's agent had thrown that number out).

Is Hayward a SF? Lance has a larger wingspan, equal standing reach, and is stronger than Gordo.

Pretty sure Hayward got quite a bit of burn at SF at the end of the season. I remember watching him and Alec play together (finally).
No matter, though. Lindsey wants good players who are also seen as team-first, good character guys. Lance ruined his reputation last year. There's no way in hell DL would take a chance on him.

I'd rather the FO focus on acquiring talent at a good price instead of signing average starters to max deals because they're clean cut. I wonder what DL would have thought of Karl Malone and his antics?

jazz should make a trade with detroit for josh smith. he's the perfect 4, and kanter can start from the bench

From what I remember Karl was a fantastic teammate. About the only player he clashed with was Ostertag- and that was for good reason. His contract negotiations were childish, but he was all about winning, taking less than the MAX and going after opponents, not his own teammates,

I think he says this because of Favors' extension. Both the amount and timing.

I just feel like Favors was reasonable with his contract and how it all played out. He benefitted because he got his contract inked and avoided the injury risk and the amount the Jazz offered was perfectly fair.

He could have waited to become a restricted free agent and I bet someone would have offered Favors upwards of $14 M to try prying him away, hell maybe a max. But he just looked at it and said okay that's a lot of money, that's plenty and keeping this core group together matters to me (this was specifically mentioned by Lindsey).
