So... If Cavs sign Hayward to Max. Pacers signed CJ and Croatian forward Damjan Rudez... Is it better for the Jazz to try to pursue Lance Stephenson? Would he even realistically consider the Jazz?
I realize he has had some moments where he isn't the sharpest cheese in the fridge but he is a talent and maybe Quin can rope him in a little.
Parsons is probably going to get over 10M per year also.
Where did I ever say that? He's certainly not a superstar, but he's not an average role player, either. Average role players do NOT get invited to US national team camps, especially at his position where there is so much talent. He had a bad season last year. Get over it. Look at his body of work before that: 45%/40%. Last season he was asked to be the playmaker and the top scorer. OK, we discovered he's neither Kobe nor Lebron. But we're not going to pay him $22-$30M, either.
He's worth whatever the market pays him. If Boston or Phoenix or Cleveland gives him an offer sheet for $12M, that's what he's worth in their eyes. If they give him an offer sheet for $10M; that's his value. And Lindsey can choose to match it or go after another FA. Or give the starting job to Hood.
BillyShelby covered this pretty well. This is for GVC, can Hayward be offered 5 years by Utah but not the max?
Look at it this way: If we pay Hayward 15M a year, if you average out his yearly pay including his rookie contract, he will have made 8.8 per year. If you have to keep in mind that with the CBA in place, many players are vastly underpaid on their rookie contracts.
An 8.8M per year average for Hayward seems reasonable to me.
Just watched the first half of Indiana's losses @New York and v.Atlanta. Both games were during their 10-13 run to end the season. All the talk about Stephenson being a selfish ball stopper are overblown if these games are indicative of his play. Lance made quick decisions, and the possessions he used seemed to result in better shots than possessions initiated by Paul George, George Hill or Roy Hibbert (those 3 played atrociously during Indiana's slump...somehow this was Lance's fault). Lance communicated well on both sides of the ball (especially on defense), did a really good job picking up a/his man in transition (and, again, communicating defensive responsibilities on the fly), and generally made good decisions on offense. His shot is ugly, but so is Gordo's. I really don't see how Hayward is worth more than Lance based on their actual play.NO under no circumstances do you pursue Stephenson.
I didn't say you did. Some fans have said it. Saying he got picked by the USA team doesn't make him a MAX guy. Some guys on the USA roster team are never going to make the USA team and it has nothing to do with what the Jazz should pay him. This is were we disagree. Hayward is a role player. He is a good one but he is a #3 option guy. I don't want him taking the ball in the last seconds of an important game which is a MAX players job.
