Rumor: Jazz prepared to match 'any offer' for Hayward.

I like Hayward a lot but I think even 10 mil a year is a bit steep. He is not a #1 scoring option on a team setup correctly so to pay double digit millions is a bit crazy. I know that is pretty much what the market would dictate nowadays but it just seems excessive. A contract around 7-8 million for a 3rd scoring option which in a perfect world is what he should be sounds about right.
 
The way I see it every serious team wants Lebron, Melo, Love first etc...those guys will be signed (teams will spend their big offers on them first)first then Hayward....second tier maybe third. Hopefully they remember what AKs contract did to us before they match Hayward but it would appear other teams MAX is easier to swallow that said to be honest If its more than 12mil would rather have Burks than Hayward- Sign and trade for Hayward will never be more than a third option.
 
I agree with most of the board that Burks is a higher priority. I think we should be vigorously working a sign and trade. However, what teams have players we like (or picks) that would want Hayward? We all know Boston and Phoenix like him. Any others? And what can we get back? I definitely would like to get JYD back. We could use a defense oriented wing. Would Portland go Matthews for Hayward straight up?
 
I really like Hayward and think he still has room to grow, and that we haven't seen his best yet. But I am tired of being an also-ran, and locking him in at 10 mill+ long term will put a serious dent in our ability to climb out of the also-ran pits of hell.


I hope we see some strong moves this off-season.
 
Burks is the player with the highest ceiling in the Jazz right now. Maxing Hayward and trading him ruins everything. I can see Lindsey eating his own hat if he has one after Burks performs as a starter in another team.
 
I am thinking teams will be overspending this year. The Heat 3some opted out so they can stay together and add pieces in Miami. Decent chance that Melo stays in NYC. Simply put, multiple teams are clearing cap space hoping to have a shot at these guys and if they stay put, there will be money to spend. Sorting through all of the information my understanding is that the Jazz offered GH 4 years at 50M last year. I am betting they will pay more than that if they want to keep him.
 
If there are really multiple teams lining up to offer him max you have to match anything he gets. Doesn't matter what we think he is worth. If multiple teams think he is a playmaker at the SF position, a rarity I might add, then he has value and we can sort it out by feb of we are not comfortable long term.

This is probably true. I just hope he progresses.

This. Teams have to know we are matching everything. We can match and move him later if need be. He's not going anywhere unless we want him to. People saying give 10 M to deng and Ariza are crazy. They don't fit where we are as a team. Hayward is the best use of our cap space this year... Unless someone offers us multiple first rounders I think he's back next year.

I guess his playing poorly last year, really limits our risk with a bigger contract. Obviously these teams lining up to make big offers weren't fazed. If plays well for us this year maybe we keep him. If he doesn't I think we will still be able to trade him.

I am pretty sure that Burks has been superseded by Exum. I also might argue Favors' ceiling is higher.
 
if the jazz can't keep a player like hayward, then they're officially a farm team

which is why i'm pretty sure hayward is not going anywhere
