What's new

Salt Lake City Summer League, July 8-10

Brice the playmaker was an experiment worth trying, but it ain’t going to work. Just needs to become a prolific off ball shooter with a pinch of shot creation, just like Bogey.

I really dont see Brice being like Bogey. Dont think they are that comparable. Brice can be a playmaker, he just has to reign in his risk tolerance and not over dribble.

I figured his handle would be better than it was, but it is definitely worth trying out to see what his upside is.

OK, everyone is talking about Brice and I just don't see it. Can you please tell me what physical tools/skills does he have that are above average for his position? Length, jumping ability, speed, lateral quickness? Dribbling, shooting, finishing at the rim, perimeter defense, play making? He seems to be able to do many things but all at the below-average level, which makes him a solid bench player in the end.

Am I overlooking something?

I don't think Brice is going to be a long-term NBA player. I don't see it with him. Too many flaws offensively for how crappy his defense is.

Hendricks looks fine as a 4th or 5th starter. He's knocking down his 3s and defending and rebounding well enough to fit into that role probably this season.

Bazley is like Hendricks with a fraction of the offense. He's a backup, defensive energy guy. James Johnson did it for years, so I'm not sure why Bazley can't. He's got to knock down some shots though.

He can dribble 3 times, on the 4th is where things go to hell. Honestly he'd be better off just launching from where ever he is than taking the 4th dribble.

Cody Williams isn't comfortable from NBA range yet. It's not a strength issue. He just hasn't figured out the distance. In one of the earlier SL games, he had an open 3pt look and he chose to step in a few feet to shoot a comfortable NCAA-distance 3 instead.
That actually explains a lot. Because I remember watching him doing it in the game and being "...but why?" The shot looked smooth but purposefully choosing to shoot the worst shot in the NBA looked soo puzzling to me. I think he will adapt.

He's just lofting the ball up right now, trying to find the rim. Actually, Keyonte was like that too for a while until he dialed it in.

He's got a snide cockiness to him. It's like he sneers after he makes a play. It's worse than Jamal Murray.
he's also really animated whenever a teammate makes a shot/play. it's as if he takes any every opportunity to let the opponent know. you could see some of it as a rookie, but he held back. in his second season, if he plays well, he is going to be insufferable for opposing fans.
