Santa is white. Is it wrong?

Wasn't Santa a Greek dude who was born and lived in today's Turkey? I mean the man that the Santa story originated from.

Are ethnic Jews similar in appearance? I've read/seen stuff on early Jesus portraits being more olive but they never struck me as ME in appearance. Rome definitely whitetized the paintings.

I'm Middle Eastern, and I'd describe my skin color as "olive" or light brown. What do you expect Middle Eastern Jews to look like? They're Semitic people that originated in that area, so I expect them to look just like Palestinians. I'm talking about 2000 year old Jews, of course.

Well, since we do not have any real evidence we can just judge by the idea that he was Jew. All Jews I know are white. Maybe not Scandinavian blonde white or German ginger white but still white. To be honest not sure what GVC was implying - that Jesus was black or asian?

Are you talking about Eastern Europeans? Jews who have been living in Europe for more than a thousand years look European, yes. I'm talking about ancient Middle Eastern Jews. Have you ever seen modern ME Jews (Sephardi)? They look ME eventho they are still mixed with Europeans to some extent.

Not completely wrong. While it didn't INVENT the image, here's what your link says:

All this isn't to say that Coca-Cola didn't have anything to do with cementing the modern image of Santa Claus in the public consciousness....

...In an era before the advent of television, before color motion pictures became common, and before the widespread use of color in newspapers, Coca-Cola's magazine advertisements, billboards, and point-of-sale store displays were for many Americans their primary exposure to the modern Santa Claus image.

I've spent several months living in Israel and the "white" Jews are definitely not the majority there. Most look like their Palestinian cousins. Some guys I worked with were what you would describe as brown or even black. They explained to me that their ancestors come from a Jewish branch somewhere from Iran. I think the idea that the historical Jesus was white is definitely more stretch than the claim he was black...Might have been very well something in between

I don't think Jesus was gray. Just sayin

Are you saying all of those red-headed Jesus portraits that Mormons are fond of aren't accurate?

Today at my in-laws the Mormon priesthood brought over sacrament to them because my MIL is ill and can't to to church. The bread which is partaken in remembrance of the body was wheat rather than white. I recalled this thread and got a good chuckle out of it.

Wouldn't it be ironic if Christ were black given the history between Christians and blacks?

However, I'm not sure why thinking that he was fair skinned is "that" much of a stretch. I guess it depends on how dark Mary was since Joseph wasn't his real father...

He was passed as a Nazerene, were they typically darker or fairer?
