Shaq

I think you are making the gap between awful and average too thin. He is a much better defensive player than an offensive player... The shooting might end up being bad but guys like Torrey Craig still survive in the NBA and Torrey Craig is not allowed to dribble. Getting to the rim as much as Shaq does puts him close to league average. Spacing is created by guys being able to shoot but another issue is if a guy can catch and dribble you need to cut off that space before they get downhill. If they flat out ignore him out there he will shoot over 35%... all we
Need is for them to have to close out to him and that creates an advantage for him.

We’ve also been able to help guys improve their shots. Not sure if those guys are around anymore or if we have the time to work with him.

I think Shaqs offense is closer to average than Niang defense. He has at least one thing he does well on that side of the court and it isn’t like on defense where Niang can be targeted. A guy can slack off of Shaq but doesn’t mean he can impact the play defensively... Niang can be targeted every time down the floor if they want.

I expect Shaq to be a below average offensive player... I expect him to shoot closer to 30% than 35% but if he’s over 35% (might be unreasonable given the history but stranger things have happened) then he’s definitely an average offensive player. The bar isn’t as high as you are making it.

Yeah Torrey Craig can survive in the NBA, but is he the standard of an average offensive player?

I think you're setting the bar really low here for average. If he's on the court and there are two worse offensive players than him....I'm really not feeling great about my team's scoring ability. How about this, who is an average offensive combo guard to you?

Thankfully, he doesn't have be average on offense to be a good signing and useful player. His defense is really that great, I have no doubts about that.

Right. Exum being incapable of processing the game, improving, staying healthy, or being reliable in any way has nothing to do with it.
Exum insistence on being a pg was also a bit of a problem. Should have willingly accepted more of a wing role and his offense would be less disruptive.

You just have a weird thing for being overly hateful and negative towards players you dislike. It seems very toxic.
I hate watching resources that could help build/maintain the team being dumped into (and doubling down on) horrible investments. If that's AK, Exum, or any of the dinosaurs and stiffs the Jazz have tried to make happen in the last couple of years, then sure.

Let me think about an example that only favors my definition... one moment please :). Off the top of my head I’d say Langston Galloway I guess... haven’t looked at any numbers.

I don’t think Craig is average... he’s below average but I could see Shaq shooting in a similar ballpark but with the added dribble drive ability.

Here’s how I’d run minutes:

Conley 30

Mitchell 32
Ingles 25
Bojan 32
Gobert 31
Clarkson 29
Favors 20
Royce 25
Shaq 18

Obviously over 240 slightly but injuries and overtime.

That's close to how I'd do it... a few more for Joe.. a few less for JC and maybe Mike. I want Favs around 14-18 minutes... Rudy will want 32-34ish. Maybe you are projecting some blowouts?

I think one thing needs to be communicated to Royce and Joe... we need the defensive stoppers and effort we used to know... less minutes means more effort and activity please.

I'm hoping Shaq gets Niangs rotation minutes as well. I worry that Quin can't trade in the minivan.

He can keep the minivan. It just needs to be in the driveway for the nostalgia and good vibes. Start it every couple weeks and take the kids to 711 in it.

So he’s a golf cart now... we got one a month ago and the kids have loved doing routine things in it. The Niang cart will be fun in blowouts or back end of a back to back.

I think there will be moments for Niang and Shaq depending on the game. But it's probably an either or situation if everyone is healthy. Hope Oni can play his way into that conversation as a two way option.
