Should Cody spend time in the G LEAGUE

Should Cody Williams get sent down to the Stars for a stint?

No one is posting highlights so I guess it sucked
I'm not sure where you even find Gleague game highlights.

I watched some. He wasn't good, but at least was much more aggressive getting shots off. He had a cutting dunk and a step back fadeaway 2 that were really nice looking. He wasn't going to magically start making 3s, so missing those wasn't surprising.

Honestly the worst part of the game was his defense. He was being asked to play defense off ball and did not look good. Not surprisingly he is not strong enough to help on defense in the paint.

If they play well they get uploaded to youtube pretty quickly

If I was in charge of his development I would have him rotate between having him in the G and basically playing entire games for ~2 weeks, have mini-off seasons where he strength trains and polishes his skills in practice but plays no games for ~2 weeks, and have him play with the Jazz for ~2 weeks. He has a long way to go.

The inefficient scoring is whatever, but obviously still not a great sign. My biggest ongoing concern with Cody is that he doesn’t do much else besides score on the court. He’s considered a well rounded and versatile player but he’s really pushing the “master of none” thing to concerning levels. 3 rebounds, 1 assist, and zero stocks in 28 minutes reinforces the low motor concerns for me.

I think it was great to see him get 18 shots off. He was touching the ball on offense most possessions. That's what he is there for.

I agree that him not filling up the box score is concerning. You would hope him being the superior athlete would lead to some of that. From watching the game I can tell you he did not look comfortable in his defensive role. Hopefully once he gets used to it the stocks will come.

I think Cody totally slacked off on the defensive side. He didn't challenge shots at the rim, and he probably didn't intend to. The whole spirit of the Gleague seems to be about guys going through the motions and developing themselves. No one really cares about wins or losses.

As for his overall physicality, that's not going to come until he adds strength (if he does). That's what I'm worried about.

Cody hit a runner and a FT so far. Airmailed a 3ball. Looks comfortable handling and turning the corner.
He's missed a couple shots near the rim and isn't handling contact well...which isn't a surprise.
Avoids contact and settles for an 18-ft jumper, which he hits.

What a riveting half of GLeague hoops. If you count Cody's FT, he has more makes than airballs so I'd say it was a good half.
