Should the Jazz persue DeRozan?

What the Jazz need, IMO, in order of importance:

1. Talent (ideally a legit star whom we can build an offense around, obvi)
2. Outside shooting
3. A defensive stopper on the wing

If we can't accomplish #1 on that list, then the next best thing we can do is get another player of Hayward's offensive aptitude and hope that the two of them together can suffice (in combination with elite team defense). Hood might be able to get to that point. If not, DeRozan is a viable option. There's no guarantee that it would be enough to create an offense good enough to win it all, but I'm not sure what else we're supposed to do if we can't land an actual star.
 
As for the notion that teams aren't/cant play 2 bigs together (like the jazz) in the nba anymore.... lets look at the teams remaining.

Cavs start two 6 foot 10 guys. One of them is a great shooter and the other is horrible. (thompson and love)
Raptors start a 7 footer and a 6 foot 10 guy. Ones a shooter and one isn't. (patterson and valancunas)
A healthy miami team would start a 6 foot 11 guy and a 7 footer. (bosh and whiteside)
OKC starts a 6 foot 10 guy and a 7 footer. (adams and ibaka)
portland starts a 6 foot 9 guys and a 6 foot 11 guy. (aminu and plumlee) (their depth chart actually lists noah vonleh at the 4 instead of aminu)
Spurs start a 7 footer and a 6 foot 11 guy (aldridge and duncan)
Even the anti big man warriors start a 7 footer and one of the biggest 6 foot 7 guys in the league. (bogut and green)

So right now in the playoffs we have 8 guys at 6 foot 11 or taller (counting if bosh were healthy though) and 4 guys that are 6 foot 10. Only 2 bigs under 6 foot 10. Out of a total possible of 14 bigs.
Lots of big guys. 8 of them are not three point threats. (and ibaka who im counting as a three point threat shot .326 from three in the regular season this year)
Patterson, love, green and bosh are all legit three point threats. Ibaka kinda is.

Favors needs to be able to step out a bit more and be a more consistant outside shooter. That would help a lot. And having a point guard who scares teams from three. Hopefully exum becomes a good three point shooter.

All those teams you mentioned have one of them that is an above average shooter at one of the big positions.

Ya and I think favors can be an above average shooter from mid range which is why is said favors needs to get better shooting wise and that he needs to get better a little farther out too

I think the whole point was about floor spreading, brough. Not about the measurement from the floor to the top of someone's head.

Yep. Most of those teams have a guy who doesn't spread the floor at all and another guy who does. Here's to hoping that favors can improve his floor spreading.
If not then we maybe move on to lyles.

If favors could just spread the floor as good as aldridge and our perimeter guys get better at shooting the three then I think that would be good enough to go along with our fantastic defense.
 
Favors will never spread the floor as well as Aldridge. I say that as a supporter of Favors.
 
I've liked Derozan for a long time, even before he signed his last deal that everyone said was a bad deal.
So part of me wants to see him sign here, but I don't think it's the best move. His playoff play has me worried
 
I would rather have DeRozan with the ball in his hands in the final 2 minutes of a game than Hayward. Hayward plays effectively most of the game, but is consistently terrible at the end of close games which is why our record is so bad in close ones.
