What's new

Starcraft 2: Heart of the Swarm

Say what you want UGLI. I like it and dont give a damn what any nay sayers have to say. It's fun.

In first SC, I was expert on Zerg rush and Zealot rush. You have to kill your enemy in 7-8 minutes. That's fun.

My life for Auir!

Yeah I get it for the campaign and then I will play a game agaisnt the computer about once a week. Fun stuff. That multiplayer stuff is way beyond my skill level.
Multiplayer isn't difficult. If anything it's easier than campaign. It's just not fun to me.

Starting out yeah. But as you start winning more and more the opponenets get harder and soon you just get beat all the time by kids who live and breath that game.

No doubt. I just don't get the appeal of 5-minute games.

I usually like a good 30-45 minute game. Somethig that challenges me but is doable if I play well. I'll set up an AI match were I fight up to 4 computer players.

That's probably the route I'll go with this game unless playing zerg gets fun. Set up versus AI.

Also, Age of Kings 2 is coming out with an HD version.

I am on the last mission and I am just steam rolling everything. I suggest if you want more of a challenge that you go with a moderate difficulty. I did casual and it is laughable easy. Only stuck with it to see the whole story faster. Some of the "mutations" that you can make to your army thru the course of the campaign are very overpowered. Multiplayer does not have them and is evenly matched like always.

For example:
Instant Overlord hatching
Instant Zergling hatching with a strain called "Swarmlings" that hatch 3 at once instead of 2 that take time to hatch.
Ultralisks that cocoon and get reborn after they die automatically.

A few thoughts:

I haven't bought HOTS yet but Wings of Liberty was really fun. I'm not sure if it's "as good" as the original. But it's pretty darn good. I'd say it more than out jumps Diablo III from Diablo II (although Diablo II and Starcraft are probably the top video games in history)...

#1 HOTS makes it easier for new people/non-zerg players. From what I've seen, there are several key strokes that can select your entire army (which is always a huge pain when playing zerg since they're always hatching, burrowing, evolving, and running over to different places on the map). I heard that Queens were going to autocast so more larvae could be hatched (don't know if that has happened). So I think it makes playing the zerg easier. Although... Like many have said here, I'm not a zerg player. I'm a protoss.

#2 The storyline seems really good. The campaign looks pretty tight with how you have to evolve and basically create a whole new swarm. That splash damage ultrasisk could be epic. The only problem I have... Is why does Jim Raynor get all pissed at Kerrigan turning back into a Zerg? He had access to Zeratul's profecy from Wings of Liberty, right? So why doesn't he fulfill his boyfriend responsibility and support her in this endeavor? To, you know, save the universe? Nurad was Duran, right? I always thought they were the same character from brood war... Also... I thought the Russian dude was shot in the back by Duran? Instead, he was invested and used as an experiment. Meh.

#3 Beef I've had with Wings of Liberty, why not allow the same units in the campaign be used in multiplayer? I personally have always had a thing for Firebats. Unfortunately, I could only create them on a few missions in WOL. I'm guessing the same thing will happen once the Protoss expansion comes out in 20 years. I've always wanted to see what a Dragoon or Reaver would look like in SCII.

There is a research you can do when playing Terran in multiplayer that lets you create big mechanical firebats basically.

Which units are you talking about? Are you talking about the lil mechanical vulture/firebat units called.... ahhhh... what were they called? Hellions?

I was just using them as an example. I know Dragoons have been basically replaced by stalkers. But there's something to be said about the originals. One of the coolest missions in the terran campaign was when you got to control the Protoss army and they had scouts (who basically suck). Or one terran mission where you control Wraiths (which really suck compared to the awesome vikings). I'm curious, is HOTS the same way? Do Guardarians make a reappearance? They've basically been replaced by brood lords (or whatever they're called).
