As for Franklin's comment, only a minority of Jews, in general, actually practice the religion, or possess any deep faith. Most are culturally Jewish. That is even more obvious when it comes to the intellectual Jewish clique. But then again, what percentage of biologists or physicists are believers? 5%? Some people manage to have religious faith, while maintaining their scientific objectivity. But it's somewhat difficult.

Siro, wiping aside the history that one way or another led to Jews being so damn smart can't be that simple.

I'm well aware of the atheist, ethnic Jews who have risen to the top in every field imaginable. That doesn't score a point in the face thousands of years of history that got us to where we are today. The religion obviously did not breed a bunch of dumb asses.

I think a better way of looking at it through the atheist lens would be an evolutionary argument where only the smartest survived their history of persecution. IMO, that view pretty much equalizes the atheism vs. religion debate as far as intelligence is concerned.

If people insisted on praying to unicorns in school, on starting every legislative session with unicorns, on putting unicorn monuments in front of court houses, etc., I would.

To answer Colton's question, didn't the article say that they measured average IQ of a random sample of both groups?

If you are referring to the article of the original post, it was a meta-analysis, and not every study used the same measure of intelligence.

This thread has nothing to do with those things. This thread tries to show that atheists are smarter than religious people. I imagine you don't like it when religious people claim they are inherently more moral than atheists, do you. Your criticism of school prayer is valid but you can criticize an activity without criticizing a community. There are religious people(believe it or not) who are against school prayer.

Only if school prayer is a mandatory, school led prayer. If it is simply 5 minutes of silence each morning where each student can pray, sleep, text or whatever than no it is not a valid critique.

I completely agree. There have been a few prayers that were a blatant endorsement of religion, but I don't think we should stop kids from expressing themselves religiously or otherwise.

As long as said child is not doing something hurtful or disruptive, like yelling obscenities, sacrificing a chicken or harming another student, that should be allowed. No matter how distasteful it is.

School prayer is inherently disruptive. 5 min times 182 = 15+ hours of lost education per year.

It should be allowed because these kids need to learn to tolerate one another not because it's no big deal.
