Stupid Pet Peeves

My wife always being the guilty one but somehow always me ending apologizing.

My daughter is getting married in July and I told her new husband if he learns to say "I'm sorry" and "yes dear" reflexively everything will be great. My wife says my name and the first thing I say is "yes dear I'm sorry" almost like a website....yesdearI'msorry

I'll try my very best, teacher.

Men - you just don't understand. It has to do with our multi-tasking brains. There is a lot more involved than just opening the door and getting out.
Aren't you also hoping the idiot of a husband/BF will be a gentleman and come open your door?

BTW, how many years (months, days?) after getting married does it take for the romance to fade and for SO's to stop opening car doors for their partner?

Depends on the woman. Some will expect it forever. They view it as a sign their man cherishes them. My suggestion is to ask how she feels about it. If it is important to her, then do it. If she doesn't like it or doesn't care, then stop if you want. Society's rules are sometimes stupid.

I was raised with the idea that men should always open doors. And I remember feeling annoyed by it as I had to wait for my date to come around the car. It felt awkward to me. I just wanted to get out and on to the next thing we were doing. But I accepted it as part of what was proper behavior. And I properly looked down on a guy that didn't open my door (beware, he'd be a lousy husband, you know).

If a guy opens the car door, I'm gracious about it, but I would really prefer to take care of it myself.

This is absolutely not common anymore.

If I was dating someone who expected that there wouldn't be a second date. Beware, needy entitled brat.

I do, however, always open doors to buildings.

I still open car doors for my wife. Not all the time but like when it's raining or at night or whatever. It is a sign of respect and she appreciates it.
