Summer League Jazz vs. Memphis

Just a reminder that Royce didn't do very well in SL.

I still don't think Wright-Foreman makes it though. He doesn't know how to play without being the lead.

Didn't look promising for JWF. Looked overwhelmed and nervous at the difference in level of competition. Having said that, Trae Young, in SL, looked like a guy who wouldn't make an NBA roster if he didn't have a guaranteed contract. It will be interesting to see how JWF comes out tonight.

Wes Mathews didn't blow anyone away either. I had attended a summer league game and/or preseason game with Mathews and couldn't believe the jazz were signing him. But I was way off, because Wes looked much better when he played with regular NBA players, and he had a defined role.

The role these guys play in summer league is different than the role they played in college, and when they come to fall camp they will be given a new role again. That fall camp role is the only one that matters. If any one of the three can fit in to a reserve role they have a chance.

Ill be honest, I tried real hard to watch about 5 mins of this crap. And that’s about all I could stomach. So I watched the highlights. Seems like Brantley and Reed were the most impressive, right?

Bradley might be the most vertically challenged player I’ve seen since Jarron Collins. Even Collins could shoot a little bit.

It’s weird because Bradley has a pretty good body. But man, he doesn’t seem to jump at all. Just no explosion.

That's the impression I got. Bradley did a few things last night, but his lack of jumping over a phonebook doesn't help us.

Careers won’t be defined by one summer league game. If I were to make some predictions:

Brantley - active roster, probably some garbage minutes. I really think he’s going to stick in this league as a reserve giving you some quality hustle minutes.

Oni - will be on the Stars for sure. Needs some seasoning and experience. Competes at a position where you need some elite traits to stick and not sure he has those.

JWF - learning that the competition is a different animal. Will learn not to force as much if he wants to stick. Still think he can be a bench scorer giving you some fire a la Lou Williams if he really works on his game, but that’s a long ways away.

The game made me glad I picked Brantley as the rookie with the best shot to make the team. That block he made was NBA caliber.
