Taylor Hendricks Hype Thread

I have a hard time with envisioning him in the Ochai role and not having him give you more of what you wanted Ochai to give you. Yeah, maybe he isn’t grabbing as many rebounds as you’d like, but that’s comparing him to a big. I’d imagine his per minute stats across the board are better and his three point shooting numbers are better.

Locke was talking about how it might be best for Hendricks to start instead of coming off the bench.

I would probably agree. It's going to be tough to fit him in lineups where he makes sense and the starting lineup sans Collins does make sense for him.
Collins ain't coming off the bench until next year. Maybe if they load manage we will see Taylor with that group. Jazz would be too worried Collins trade value takes a hit. Eventually that is the play if you can't trade him this offseason.

He will certainly make more plays than Ochai, but he's going to make a ton more mistakes.

Im continually shocked by how much people try to simply impact and a player being good/bad. Brings me back to HH during the draft where he was convinced Hendricks could be a positive impact rookie simply because he shot the ball well in college and averaged mediocre block numbers at UCF.

Yeah, Ochai was not good here, but he was typically in the right spots and making the right plays and playing solid to good defense. He just lost all confidence in his jumper and all he had in his game was a jumper.

Hendricks is probably going to make more plays per minute than Ochai, but he's going to be out of position, he's going to have crazy drives to the lane that result in hard bricks off the backboard, he's going to look lost, etc.

Agreed. Also expected when comparing a one year of college 20 year old g-leaguer to a 4 year kansas big12 player of the year nba sophmore.

I do think you are correct though. Taylor will make more mistakes almost assuredly. There is context as to why that might be the case th0ugh.

This is part of my developmental theorem: if someone doesn’t get developmental time and piddles out and leaves the league, “they knew all along, see, he didn’t amount to anything.” If someone does well later, “see, the developmental plan worked!” It’s the ultimate confirmation bias.

Also hindsight cognitive bias

Unless OP jr. Gets the time then I think hardy showed his hand with the rotation last night. I love McMahon but it seems indeed that time will open up for Taylor.

Agreed. I just wonder how this media “info” gets distributed. Like how was Ochai the god prospect and all we hear about Taylor is that it’s gonna take a long time.

I still stand by what I thought about him early on. I worry about his feel/awareness…..but he doesn’t need a ton of feel to stand in the corner on offense and make plays on defense. Let him play.

Hardy's interview today about Tay Henny kind of damned him with faint praise. The part that had me scratching my head was "We'll have to see how he carries himself." Has he been a pain in the behind? Not a hard worker? I found those choice of words a bit odd and perplexing. Or is the only way to fire him up is throw a grenade at him?
