What's new

Texas @ BYU

Quite a game... awesome win, but it just makes last weeks loss hurt even more.

Should be 2-0 right now and feeling REALLY good.

I have to admit I didn't see anything like this coming. After the debacle last week, setting the school record with over 500 rushing yards? Wow. Have to wait to find out if BYU is actually pretty good, or if Texas if just awful.

BYU dominated.

But boy... How can Texas fans deal with this? Texas showed about as much preparation, heart, and toughness as Big Al does on a road game in New Orleans. Just no resistance whatsoever. No heart not adjustments.

Why didnt Texas attack BYU's secondary? M Davis was open all night long. Why didnt they stack the box?

Badddddd coaching once again for Texas.

BYU needs to desperately find a passing game. You won't rush for 500+ every game. Utah will take Hill's legs away by stacking the box and getting after Hill (Trevor Riley and Nate orchard in particular). I fear that the passing game is a lost cause this year. The receivers (other than Hoffman) either can't get open or can't catch. Apo is thee most overrated player. No tight ends.

I doubt Hill will ever be great at passing. But these receivers and QBs need to be upgraded in the future.

Anyone want to know what the hell that offensive coaching staff was recruiting the past few years? Weak QBs. Bad receivers. No o libemen(because they had to run to jr colleges this spring to even have an o line).

Just how bad was Doman? How lackadaisical was Bronco?

All great points
It was a great win against a quality opponent and yet I still have no idea how good or bad they are

I don't remember BYU putting very many sets with a tight end on the field at all. And I agree Apo has been a disappointment yet again.

Ya I think that most teams will stack the box and stop byu run game and force them to throw.... hopefully hill improves and starts finding his weapons in the pass game (of wich there are many).

If hill can't get more accurate then the offense will be in trouble.

Good thing us that the defense is so good that even with the offense struggling byu will still have a chance to beat utah.

One thing that has gone under the radar from this game was byu's special teams.

One bad punt was the only bad thing from the SP..... also on the long (60 yard) kickoff return that was brought back, the byu player started to attempt a block in the back and then stopped and pulled his arms back and never touched the texas player...... it was really hard to see though so I don't really fault the ref.

Field goal kicking was good.... coverage team was excellent and lots of kickoffs went out the back of the end zone.

Byu had a lot more penalty yards than texas and 2 more turnovers than texas and still dominate the game and scoreboard.
Impressive

Texas tried that very thing. Good luck with that.

3 things

1. No they didn't.
2. Their d linemen were flying upfield completely forgetting to even check the QB. No one was assigned to him. Ever. Texas was way too arrogant to even adjust to Hill. One time ESPN showed how the end shot upfield and completely gave Hill a running lane the size of I-15 to run 25 yds into the endzone. Utah won't do that, especially after watching the film of tonight. Face it, BYU must develop some semblence of a passing game or it's going to be another loss.
3. Travis Wilson, the receivers (their TEs in particular), and Dennis Erickson will have a game plan against BYU. Texas just showed up expecting to run a few plays and win because of their athleticism. There were times their Oline slide away from Van Noy. Rarely did they double him. Texas showed as much respect for BYU's defense as Duncan did for Big Al.

Texas had horrible discipline. Getting out of lanes and over pursuing the RB.

Exactly.

I don't think many BYU fans have seen Nate Orchard and Trevor Riley this year. They've been scary dominate. If anyone thinks these two are going to let Hill scramble for 30 yards on a 3rd and 10 they've got another thing coming.

No. The Utah State game did actually happen. The players mentioned did actually play. And Utah got beaten in the trenches for 3/4's of that game. Those two players have exactly 1 sack between them right now. I realize that doesn't always tell the whole story...and I'm sure they contain just fine or whatever you are claiming is "scary dominate", but "solid" is probably the better descriptor.

Chucky Keaton made plays with his feet by being a threat to pass, even on the run. He also broke a lot of tackles in the backfield that were not just pathetic attempts at his feet. Utah did a very good job of shutting down that offense after the mid way point of the 3rd quarter.
.
Also Utah State was dominant for 1.5 quarters of a 4 quarter game. That's a far cry from 3/4's of the game. Utah owned the 1st and 4th quarters as well as half the 3rd quarter.
.
That said BYU defense and especially VanNoy scare the hell out of me as a Utah fan.

They were QB spying from the second quarter on. I'm sure the game will be up on BYUtv's website soon. You should probably watch it again.
