What's new

Texas @ BYU

No. The Utah State game did actually happen. The players mentioned did actually play. And Utah got beaten in the trenches for 3/4's of that game. Those two players have exactly 1 sack between them right now. I realize that doesn't always tell the whole story...and I'm sure they contain just fine or whatever you are claiming is "scary dominate", but "solid" is probably the better descriptor.

So. The Virginia game happened as well. Besides give Utah state some credit. They have had a weak program in the past but they have put together a pretty decent squad. Congrats to BYU for Knocking off Texas. It is good for all of Utah's schools when one of them handles the big boys like BYU did with Texas.

I picked them at 4-8 with a + or - 2. If anybody wants that over 6 action built on the faulty premise that their defensive line is dominate, please let me know.

Slow your roll Duck. What are you responding to from my post. I was simply pointing out that you weren't giving Utah State enough cred and that an awkward season opener for both BYU and the Utes has little to do with how their game will play out.

SRS congrats to BYU for handling Texas.

1. From the second quarter on Texas stacked the box. Didn't do them any good.
2. Part of the reason for the discrepancy is that Hill was unleashed. I'm not sure he was given the green light to run last week like he was this week. Also he wasn't running ankle deep in water.
3. Utah will run a better scheme, but they do not have better athletes than Texas on D. Taking away Hill's running will not be a given. Hill and Williams just had another gear that we don't often see at BYU.
4. Utah would probably beat Texas as well.
5. Utah didn't adjust to Utah States's O last week. Utah State was gassed. That won't happen to BYU.
6. BYU's D has 2 weeks to gameplan for Utah. This is a pretty big deal. Utah usually is the one with a bye before the BYU game.
7. BYU receivers need to catch the damn ball. If they don't BYU will continue to lose games they shouldn't

I skipped over your lower case "state". I thought you were talking about Utah. My apologies if I come off a little edgier than usually right now. I went to that BYU/Texas game and sat in the tunnels for two hours during the rain delay, then I came home and my basement was flooded so I had to clean that up, then I fell asleep to my DVR'd USC - looking like the worst team in the Pac 12 - loss. So it was a good and bad night for me, and a long one.

Sorry to hear about your basement bro. Did it come in your windows, through your foundation, or(god forbid) sewer back up.

Fua is freaking legit too. Very impressed.

He's really good. And the main thing, even though he had two sacks last night, is that the guy is a blanket in coverage.

Anybody think BYU will get votes in the polls this week? I don't think they deserve to be in the top 25 or anything, but neither do about 1/2 teams that are in there at this point of the season.

Edit: I guess the AP poll is already out:

Texas had horrible discipline. Getting out of lanes and over pursuing the RB.

Seriously. Hill faked them out basically every single time. Now perhaps Hill is the world's best faker-outer, but I agree that Texas's discipline was horrible.

Good point. Hill wasn't deadeye by any stretch, but there were at least 4 times, maybe more, when receivers just dropped a perfectly thrown ball.

Best game since Utah '09. Few thoughts:

-O-line was 9999999x times better
-Passing was better, percentage wise still very rough, but looked more promising. A couple dropped passes by Alisa and Apo probably took points off the board.
-Defense looked shaky at times, but held together well. We could start having major problems in secondary I feel.
-Justin Sorenson stilll hasn't missed a FG, this is the shocker of the year so far.
-We need to put Hill in more successful passing situations. Anae needs to get him in situations where he can throw to TE's and Williams for short routes. He's being forced to make too many difficult throws so far.
-Texas tried to stack the box, but the option was throwing them off. I was getting a bit frustrated with Anae for the 1st half or so of the game, thought we were getting too conservative with Williams running up the gut, but that started to open things for the handoff option for Hill/Williams and Hill's speed was able to get around Texas' 8 guys in the box and get to the outside.

Utah is going to find a way to stop Hill's running. I'm sure he'll break a couple nice 15-20 yard scrambles, but I won't be expecting any big running plays from him. BYU is going to have to run better passing plays and Hill's going to have to get a little more accurate.

I love posts like this from BYU fan. I told you that you would get the wind back in your sails after this game.

To compare Hill to Keaton is ridiculous. Look at Hill's passing numbers, then look at Keaton's. Keaton is 100x's the QB Hill is. Your are insulting Keaton by mentioning the two together.

Utah could literally put a CB on Hoffman and put 10 guys in the box and blitzkrieg Hill all night long. Even with wide open receivers, Hill can manage to get the ball in the same zip code as his receivers one out of every three passes.

I'm not saying Utah will win this game easily. But for any BYU fan to suddenly think Utah is any more worried about BYU than before the Texas game, you're crazy. BYU is a good team with a great defensive front seven. Any fan who thought Texas would blow them out at home was a fool.

Just like any body who thinks Taysom showed anything this last weekend is a fool. All he showed was that Texas looked like they had never seen an option play ran before (which Texas has always struggled with under Diaz. That's why he was fired after the game).

Also, neve doubling Van Noy and allowing three rushers to put pressure on your QB? Did Texas even watch any film on BYU?

Great win BYU fans. You guys took Texas out back and whipped them. The looks on their faces were priceless. What BYU fan should be watching for this weekend is how Utah cares against OSU's passing attack. If Utah can contain their pass game, you guys will get slaughtered. If OSU passes all over Utah, then it will be your traditional rivalry game, close with you guys talking about how BYU is the better team although Utah scored more points.

I love BYU fan. Bipolar as hell.

Funny how Texas got 12 more votes than BYU. Guess which know at least 12 people who didn't watch the game.

Yeah. I told my FIL that we know which pollsters fell asleep before the game. I bet all Texas's votes came from the East Coast. Lol.

I'm sorry... saw this and it was just too funny not to share...

My dear wife falls into the Blue section of your pie. I usually love her blind homerism, but she also was a fan of the "SPIRIT, HONOR, TRADITION" on the backs of the jersey's. Ya.

My prediction is that we kick the BYE week's *** and then rest up for a few days, only to come back twice as strong and stomp the living life out of Utah. 53-3 sounds about right.

I'm very skeptical that Utah has the Linebackers to defend the read option IF it is properly executed. Keaton was a warning sign and last year's game against Arizona was another. Keaton is better than Hill now, but Hill has the better supporting cast and won't wither at the end like Keaton did. BYU's D will buy them better field position as well. If you want to stack 9 in the box, you are risking the corner being sealed where, for once, BYU will kill you with a speed player. Or you can do what Utah St. Did and string out the O line with lots of receivers and force the LBs to make plays in space.

That is what I will be watching with Utah on Saturday. Let's see if the linebackers can show anything special. If they can continually, or even occasionally, put pressure on the Beaver quarterback, I'll believe that Kyle can scheme around their athletic deficiencies. This is surprising to me because I thought Utah grew good linebackers on a tree behind the stadium.

Just pissed there aren't a tremendous amount of good games this Saturday.

Ok, let's tackle this. Keaton is LIGHT years better than Hill. For you to mention the two together is a joke. Ridiculous. Keaton has a freaking 79% completion percentage. SEVENTY NINE PERCENT. Keaton is better than Hill yesterday, today, tomorrow and forever.

Hill has the better supporting cast? Are you kidding? Give me a break. You obviously haven't seen Utah State play. Utah State has the better QB, OL, TE, and I'd take their WR's over yours. Hoffman is a beast, but if I have to take the rest of BYU's guys including butterfingers/alligator arms Apo and the rest of the munchkins...I'd pass. RB is the only position that BYU is better than Utah State. That's it.

First of all, how is it that every single BYU fan has already forgotten about the Virginia game? Virginia took away the QB run side of the option, Williams had a ton of carries and BYU lost. To a team with a much worse defense than Utah's, and much worse offense than Utah's.

Now, I know you guys think your OL is all world now, but Utah does all right when it comes to the DL. They actually turn their talent into millionaires, while BYU turns their big uglies into...normal fat people. I guarantee you Reilly and Orchard won't dive in on Williams on every single play, forgetting about Hill. Also, I know you think Texas's DT's are obviously better than Utah's, but Utah has more DT's in the NFL making a lot more money than Texas does. And Tenny is another future millionaire. He is better than what BYU saw with Texas.

Ummm...more proof you don't know what you are talking about. Utah has had one good linebacker once. Don't worry about the LB'ers this weekend. What BYU fan needs to pay attention to is Utah's pass coverage. If Utah can slow down OSU's passing game, even just a tiny bit, BYU should be worried. If Utah feels like they can put their corners out on islands, then that allows Utah to bring the safeties and LB'ers up in the box and attack Hill and Williams (if you want to see an example of this, go see the Virginia game. Virginia attacked Hill on the option play, and he gave it up to Williams). If Utah doesn't feel like they can leave the corners out on islands, then they have to commit the safeties to help on the passing game and it could open it up for BYU in the option game.

If you watch the Utah game, watch their corners and Utah's passing game. If Wilson goes off again and maintains his position as a top 10 statistical QB in the nation, and the CB's hold their own against OSU, get worried. If Wilson struggles and the Utes CB's struggle, then continue your chest pounding.
