He's a killer. Tonight everyone will know.

Prediction: 10 pts, 6 ast, 3 reb, 2 stl in 22 min.

Not sure if he gets the starting job tonight. But he should be getting at least 20 to 25 min, easy.

It’s easy to say we should give Butler minutes and try all these new things during the summer, and it’s still the correct move, but damn it’s painful to watch sometimes.

And dribbling way too much. Right now he's killing our ball movement.
To be fair our off-ball movement wasn't great last game. Too much iso

Hopefully he’s working overtime in the film room and with the coaching staff. I’m not sure if it’s unwillingness or lack of ability but I’m going to hope and assume it’s the latter which I think at this stage is preferable and easier to overcome.

But yeah, he’s really got to get the flow that’s central to this offense down. Kind of a bummer how much better Forrest is than him right now because we need Forrest to stay out of the opponent’s scouting/prep to stay effective.

Hopefully this will stop the "we need to develop butler" crowd. We're competing for a championship not developing second round draft picks. If he's not able to contribute to winning now than we shouldn't play him this season. Simple as that.

That's ridiculous on it's face. Don't play the rookie at all if he isn't instantly at least as good as Clarkson. Ok.

Butler needs some burn, but in situations where he has the best chance to contribute. I think he needs to play more with Ingles and Conley and less with Clarkson and Mitchell. That simple switch will help his game. And he contributes far more than Oni so he at least needs those minutes regardless.

I don't agree with this post at all. The main thing Butler needs is game reps. He's thinking too much and needs time to get up to NBA speed. Giving him a couple of minutes per game in the regular season won't hurt our playoff chances, and potentially if he turns a corner at some point gives us another weapon to use come playoff time.

Giving him 9 minutes and then benching him for Forrest is not going to help his confidence. We've seen how he can play. We know he's good on defense, a good passer, has good handles, etc. He led his team to the championship. He was fantastic in the preseason. He needs more than 9 minutes.

I like Butler a lot
But in college he was almost always the best player on the floor
In the NBA he is almost always the worst player on the floor
Welcome to the NBA

I'm mostly ok with how Quin has handled Butler so far. It would be nice if he could play with someone other than JC though. Forrest has been good, and although he probably doesn't have the upside of Butler, it was fair for Quin to give him minutes in a game that Butler wasn't playing well.

Yeah, Forrest needs some minutes, too. We need to see the regular season as more of a time of development.

Both Forrest and Butler need to show us what they can do as situational defenders.
