Two Price residents died when the bullet bike they were riding went off the road at the first curve in Wellington and landed on the railroad tracks on Friday morning.
Initially the bike was spotted in Price going at a high rate of speed on city streets. Price police pursued but when the speeds reached about 100 miles per hour they discontinued their pursuit and the bike disappeared.
A short time later it reappeared doing the same thing and they pursued the biker again, but again because of safety concerns they discontinued the chase as the bike head on U.S. 6 toward Wellington.
Reportedly Carbon County Sheriffs Deputies pursued at that point but when the speed of the bike got to 125 miles per hour, they also discontinued the pursuit.
As county authorities patrolled Wellington to see if they could find the bike and its rider, dispatch got a call from a conductor on a Union Pacific freight train that reported that they thought they had just run over a body on the tracks. Upon investigation two bodies were found near 400 West in Wellington. One had landed on the tracks; the other, a passenger was apparently thrown from the bike and hit a utility pole.
Names of the victims have not been released.
The motorcycle itself was laying off the side of the grade with its light still on.
Utah Highway Patrol and Union Pacific were still investigating the accident as of 10 a.m.
This is a developing story. The Sun Advocate will post more details when they are made available.
