The Last Dance

Some of the old-timers are getting a little chippy because of the Jordan doc. Craig Ehlo's response to Ron Harper's comments regarding "The Shot":

"Harp had never really talked about defense or guarding people," Ehlo added. "He wasn’t a bad defender, I’ll give him that much, but I think those years with the Bulls where he got those championships, he was definitely third or fourth fiddle, so all of a sudden he becomes this lockdown defender, apparently.

"I don’t really remember him during our time wanting to play defense that much. He kind of shocked me with those comments, saying he wanted to guard Michael."

As Ehlo hinted at, Harper went on to join the Bulls in 1994 and eventually won three championships with Jordan, mainly as a defensive specialist. Therefore, there might be a bit of revisionist history going on here.

A guilty person maintaining his innocence. I’m shocked.

This reads pretty to the contrary of what you’re saying.

I'm more than willing to concede I'm wrong. Like I said I'm not a conspiracy theorist by nature and it's not like I studied this issue like some folks obsess over the Kennedy assassination or **** like that. But I'll leave you with this:

I've read interviews from MJ when speaking of his relationship with his dad, they spoke constantly - like almost every day. Meanwhile, James Jordan was missing for weeks and the family never bothered to contact the police. Their explanation is he had a tendency to take off at times to be on his own - a guy with a mobile phone in his car? In 1993? Don't buy it. When people are missing and their loved ones don't call the cops it's usually for a very specific reason.

Yeah, I posted before I had read the entire article. Lots of shady stuff there.

Makes sense. We all build up the positive things and minimize the negative in our memories. Not on purpose, it's just the way memory works. So these guys all emphasized the positive in their memories so being reminded how ugly it was for real they bristle and strike back.

Enjoyed last night's episodes. Especially the parts about The Bulls/Knicks "rivalry."

And MJ is right - they clearly were the better team in the 90's.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the documentary. I love basketball and anything that has to do with the history of basketball.

I was born in 1996 so I never watched prime Michael Jordan play and even the when he was on the Wizards I was like 7. My dad recorded every game from the 1997 & 1998 NBA Finals on VHS. I’ve watched those countless times since I was a kid to now.

I have never liked Jordan personally and honestly never will but I can appreciate his greatness. The thing that has made me like him even less than I already do is the people who want to **** on LeBron to defend Jordan’s legacy.

The greatest player I’ve ever watched is LeBron and who knows maybe someone will come along who will be better than him. I’m almost certain someone will because probably nobody thought someone would ever challenge Jordan for being the greatest of all-time. Now, my Dad was born in the 50’s and actually got to watch Wilt play live and he will argue with anyone that Wilt is the greatest player of all-time. Just recently Larry Brown came out and told stories of pickup games at UCLA in the early 80’s where Wilt would play pickup games with freshman at UCLA against Magic and his Lakers teammates. Wilt dominated and he was in his 40’s. He could have played in any era. That’s where my next point comes in. LeBron could have played in the 80’s and 90’s. Players adapt to their time. Jordan could certainly play in today’s game as well.

The thing that is the most annoying is people punish LeBron for making the Finals and losing but it’s alright for Jordan to get bounced in the first round 3 times and lose in the ECF? Makes zero sense to me. LeBron easily was on the worst or second worst team ever to make the Finals and their 2018 team was pretty bad too. LeBron is going to end up being the all-time leading scorer in the NBA and end up top-3 in assists too. That’s just insane to me. Only two players to lead the league in assists who weren’t PG’s are Wilt in 1968 and LeBron this year.

People love to romanticize the past and leave out negative details. It’s human nature. This documentary shows that Jordan got criticized for not being able to lead a team to the Finals for many years. He didn’t always have the best game. 1993 NBA Finals Game 3 Jordan went 19-43 from the field. Dude averaged 33 shots per game that series. That’s just insane, for comparison LeBron averaged 23 shots per game in 2016 when they beat the Warriors. Jordan was a gambling addict and he’s lucky the media back then wasn’t like it is now. Dude would have gotten crucified for not making the Finals until 1990 and coming up short multiple times in games and his team still winning.

Jordan scored a lot but the dude took so many shots. LeBron passed him in points on 1,000+ less shots. That’s efficiency. Jordan was amazing no doubt and this documentary shows it. I think it has reminded people that Jordan wasn’t untouchable and he wasn’t this invincible figure that people make him out to be. That’s just with the little tidbits they’ve given us.

It just occured to me that Michael Jordan's neck is absurdly large in this logo design. Right? like, he can't possibly look like that, wtf.

I have not read the conversation so far.

As a Jazz fan who went through hell in 97/98 and is having troubles making it through the first minutes.
Is this series worth watching?

I never even turned it on. It's a MJ handjob.
