The “I’m a Mike Conley hating bitch” list
ok all the genius who just knew that Mike wasn’t a good signing, has lost 5 steps overnight, can’t dribble et etc etc Sign up and put your name to it so we can come review your opinion halfway thru the season ....jazzfanz.com
It probably comes neck n neck with the Magic Johnson trade but I'd take the Conley deal for its historic significance. Conley trade basically doomed the whole Rudy/DM era whereas adding Magic to that Jazz squad in the early 1980s probably wouldn't have made that much of a difference. We didn't become contender until the late 1980s/early 1990s and Magic probably would have wanted out way before then. Plus adding Magic means we would not be getting Stock. Why are we talking about Exum?
In addition to discussing the worst trade of all time, are we discussing the worst draft pick of all time?

And your boy Simmons can't play at allConley, bogdanovic, o'neale , Mitchell all suck. All of them don't play defence
I don't know that Exum counts as the worst pick, The Jazz have had so many. Remember the center they drafted who was arrested for banging on garbage cans and threatening people? He wound up in a mental hospital and didn't even make it through the first half of his rookie season. Why are we talking about Exum?

This lineup could’ve been interestinglmao relax. I would hardly call it mortgaging the future.
IT didnt work out. The Jazz hit the age regression curve earlier than we all expected. Ingles regressing completely then blowing out his knee was the final straw.
It sucks but it's over.
My only issue is I never would’ve done that trade. Hated it when it happened and hate it now.In the jazz defense Conley had just come off his best season right before the trade happened
Yep. I've said this before that this franchise is all about butts in the seats. Do just enough to win just enough to keep the fans engaged, but don't lose money in the process. Extreme moneyball focused on financial viability and fungibility of assets (players). Their focus hasn't been on winning a ring since Larry died, and even then I don't think they were ever all-in on the ring. They want the comfort of winning seasons, some playoff games and absolute minimal risk. Even going after Conley was a low risk, moderate reward move. Going after a CP3 or even a Brogdon would have been higher risk (from their perspective) and higher possible reward. But that doesn't fit their culture. Slow and steady keeps butts in the seats. That's the mantra. It was the right time to make an all in move. This past three year window was a better chance at winning the title than we will likely have in decades. We just picked the wrong guy, and on top of that, we didn't do a good job of negotiating.
One thing that's forgotten in this whole thing is that MEM had already drafted Ja. Perhaps the Grizzlies had multiple buyers, but it's crazy how they were still able to get premium value for a guy who had major injury concerns and a replacement already in place. They also did it in the worst way possible by taking him into cap space and limiting options for further roster building. If they wanted Conley so bad (they should have not paired Don with a tiny PG), they should have at least done it at the trade deadline before. Instead we got one more year of depressed Rubio because he knew they were going to trade him.
It's honestly not too different from the Jazz now. The Jazz had obvious flaws with that Rubio roster, and instead of addressing them, they sat on their hands until the roster was completely done. This FO is much more comfortable sitting around and hoping for the best than address obvious flaws on the roster.
