The Non-Jazz NBA Thread in the Jazz Section

I’m think Braun benefits hugely from playing next to Jokic and being the 3rd or 4th option. He’s a high-energy 3D wing. I like that he gets out on the break. I like that he stays healthy. He’s nothing special with the ball in his hands.

I guess if you put Braun’s deal next to RJ Barrett’s it starts to look okay.

Stats just as good without Jokic. He's just a great 2-way player and has gotten better every year.

You match and trade out.
Or you trade him now... or any time in the last year.

At 30M you match and move it later if you have to. Chance that he gets something bigger than that and you are forced to wrestle with whether this contract is a trade asset.

I just hate how we handled this thing.

I think chances Walker is a Jazz next year... 60%
Chances he's a Laker - 25%
Chances he joins another team - 15%

Lakers would likely still throw out 1 first if we sent him there this season. The low cap hold would have value to them as they might actually get a top FA to sign there.
One dumbass team could get wild - Brooklyn, Chicago, Wash have more space than they will know what to do with.
If we keep him its likely he had an okay year and we got him at 28Mish AAV or got boxed in by one of the teams mentioned above on a 33Mish+ type deal.

One last thing here. Our tank goals are now directly opposed to Walker's goals for the season. Imagine him playing really well and it messes up the tank... plays so well a team offers like 35-40M per on a 3+1. So you missed out on cheaper Walker contract AND effed the tank.

Only thing that really makes sense with how we handled this is we end up moving him in season and you'll hear about how that was the plan all along.

I can see this argument. Just keep in mind, all of our 3rd-year guys are going to be playing for contract extensions. If Keyonte thinks he's cemented himself as a starting point guard by the end of the season, then his camp will be seeking 9-figures too. We may go through this same exercise with Keyonte and Brice, if not Taylor as well.

Fat Jackson, I just saw how much Immanuel Quickley is getting paid. Unfortunately, there are only so many bad contracts you can send to Toronto.

Brice, Key, Taylor are far less established than Walker. For them to be in the expensive extension conversation it means they made MAJOR strides.

The best time to trade him is now or you risk him turning into another Lauri whose contract simply becomes so huge that it is immovable. But we do have the upper hand as teams might be unwilling to spend in 2026 window due to the unprecedented FA market in 2027.
