The Non-Jazz NBA Thread in the Jazz Section

Well when the front runner for DOPY goes down you'd think so, you'd really really think so.
Yep. My bet is it doesn't skip much of a beat. I watched the last couple GSW games (before the Phoenix game) and frankly didn't really notice when Draymond was on or off the floor. Their defensive system and effort is consistent across their roster. Pretty impressive actually. Although, there are definitely lapses, it isn't like it's impenetrable.

They're the best ever. There's never been anybody as ruthless. Their style is impetuous. Their defense is impregnable. They're just ferocious.

Lucky for GSW, I don't believe their plan is to have nobody play defense except Draymond.
No but the obviously implied comparison is to Rudy, and if you take Rudy out for extended periods of time our defense suffers noticeably. Less so this season with Whiteside. So you'd expect something of a reduction in defensive performance if the "DPOY" is not on the floor for entire games.

Sure, but if your BEST and the BEST defender in the entire NBA misses time you'd expect at least some sort of drop off, would you not?

How much would you expect a team to suffer if a head coach missed a few games?

Frrreal, I think discussions about Draymond’s defensive impact should resemble that kind of discussion to a considerable degree.

It will be interesting to see if the GSW defense drops off at all without Draymond.
Draymond is a team defender who could help turn a good defensive team into a great defensive team, but not from a bad defensive team into a good one. His defense depends a lot on his teammates ability to switch defensively and guard different positions, which this GSW team is now capable of doing, unlike that team from last year. They should be fine. Not as good, but fine.

As things stand, we are the only team in the league that hasn't had players entering protocol
Its coming... hopefully we aren't going to be at a huge disadvantage. The wait period is shorter now so that is positive. We've played a couple teams that had someone enter protocols so I keep waiting to see our first case.

Ehh, He's on the floor physically defending people in one case and not on the floor physically defending people in another case and a "worse" defender has to take his place. I think it is entirely different than a coach missing a few games.

I mean is he a DPOY candidate because he created the Warriors defensive scheme and taught all the players how to execute it? Or is it because he has the physical ability to defend better than any other player in the league?
