The Non-Jazz NBA Thread in the Jazz Section

He's in no position to blame on spacing when he himself is very much part of the problem. Just name me one no 1 option on other 29 teams who's a worse 3pt shooter than Banchero(30% on 5.7 attempts). Opponents basically are sagging off and daring him to shoot from deep at this point. They'd rather cut off his driving lane and packing the paint even more cuz they know Banchero isn't gonna hurt them from outside.
Ok? Your primary scorer shouldnt have to space the court for himself. You put players around him to space the court for him. Unless Banchero is in charge of making personal choices, it's not his fault the Magic cant shoot.

The Magic either have to stock the roster with shooting around Banchero/Wagner and give up the ideal of having your entire team being long/athletic defenders, or make a decision between Banchero/Wagner to add a 2nd star who can shoot so they can have a more balanced roster with their athletes and add some shooting.

The spacing matters….but the reason why Banchero is the most overrated player in the league is that there is a player playing on the same team and in the same conditions who is significantly better on both ends but does not get the same credit or attention.

He got a 5 year max contract...

And well deserved, but I don't call players under/over rated based on their contracts. I am not talking about over or underpaid, I'm talking about the recognition and accolades they get for their performance beyond salary. The fact that it's even a discussion on who the better player is shows how overrated Banchero is.

If you can shoot, you don't need spacing to be effective don't you think? Because Banchero can't shoot, he needs that driving lane and teammates to provide the spacing for him. And also because he's not much of a passer/playmaker, his drive often takes him to nowhere cuz opponents knew they can double up on him without getting punished.

Long story short, Banchero is basically a Julius Randle with worse rebounding. Highly overrated and not a No 1 material. And judging by the way he plays I doubt he ever becomes a good secondary/tertiary option.

Didn't have to think for more than a second.
Giannis.
He might be the only one though. I can't think of another so it's still a fair point.

Oops. Just thought of another one.
Zion.
Westbrook a few years back would be another.

Its not a fait point at all.
If his point is simply that there are not many #1 options that are worse shooters than Banchero then its a correct point. There aren't. I could only think of 2 currently in the league.

Yeah he's definitely an anomaly. He's just a beast who can move guys out of his driving lane with his sheer strength, like a Shaq. Banchero’s nowhere near that level, obviously.

Zion, Embiid, Giannis, Barnes, Davis, Sabonis, Sengun.

And Banchero isnt a terrible shooter. He shot 34% last year and is shooting 31% this year. It's not like he's awful at shooting/a complete non-shooter.

The point is, the Magic's roster not being able to shoot 3's efficiently is a much bigger issue than your star scorer not being able to shoot 3's efficiently. And Banchero will likely get better at shooting as he ages.
