What's new

The Non-Jazz NBA Thread in the Jazz Section

True but given his stature in the league and his abilities that's a huge drop-off. Did you watch the video? The Lakers are way better without him, as per advanced stats too. So washed wasn't the right word, it just looks like he's done seriously playing basketball.

I mean, this is year 23, he's obviously not nearly as good as he used to be, but like... Okay.

I think one of the stories of the season is Jalen William's wrist. He just doesn't look confident in his shot right now. He made his first three in his last 6 games last night and is averaging less than 1 made three per game. OKC doesn't look nearly as scary right now.

I remember how much Deron's wrist slowed down his career. He went from the best PG in the NBA to just a good player.

So Jalen is definitely not playing at his best, but even before this season you could make the argument that he is overrated. I’m very interested to see how Presti navigates their salary situation. He’s obviously a very analytically focused guy, I wonder if Jalen is the one to eventually go.

Trade Cody for Jalen and Jazz pick and call it good :):):):)

I'm not sure why you would consider him overrated?

He's not super efficient in a higher usage role, his adjusted lineup data is not great, and he's probably stealing some credit as defender. Still a very good player, but I'm skeptical he's a top 15 player.

Yikes, I don't think he's overrated at all. He is the offensive hub in the non Shae minutes. He is also a very good defender and extremely versatile. Ultimately he was the second best player on a championship team, and has carried them to wins in multiple playoff games when Shae was off.

I agree. However, who said he was a top 15 player? OKC fans?

I mean the guy is as pure a role player as they come.

I remember when everyone thought Jalen Brown was overrated too because being a 2nd option on a loaded team means you dont have the best counting stats.

Is he a top 15 player though? Ringer had him 15th, ESPN 11th going into the season. I see people making this out to me saying he's not good, but I think it's fair to ask if he's actually top 11 or 15 good.

The non-Shai minutes are an interesting subset to analyze. He is prolific, but he's not super efficient and the offensive team performance is not that great.

I'm not going to make a full list, but I think the 10-20 range is completely fair for him, especially when considering two way impact. Besides Shai there aren't a lot of good offensive players on that team, so it's a huge offensive burden that they both take on when one or the other is not on the court. He's also still only 24 years old and by all accounts was dealing with a bad wrist last year.

You are a moron if you think Jalen Williams is overrated.

As pointed out above, this is about his supposed "top 15" status.

He absolutely isn't among the NBA's 15 best players. That's just ridiculous.

What is he then? Literally the perfect do-it-all role player for the OKC basketball machine. In this case you can't separate the man from the team.

Put him on the Jazz and nobody would be saying he's Top 15.
