Baptism by immersion is symbolic of our commitment to Heavenly Father. That we agree to follow his commandments and laws. A covenant if you will. This also leads to the gift of the Holy Ghost.
If it's symbolism, then why is it a necessary ingredient to being saved?
Also, where does it say that baptism leads to the gift of the Holy Spirit? (I'm assuming you're referencing the Holy Spirit when you say the Holy Ghost, correct me if I'm wrong.)
