What's new

The Official Blow up the team thread.

Maybe I'm just a silly fan, but all I care about is the pursuit of a championship. My 90's blue-balls won't be cured by meaningless trips to the playoffs as a low-seed and no real shot.

That's only part of the story. They sign for 3 because it's at 7 years service time that the max salary increases to start at 30% of the cap (as opposed to 25% for 0-6 years service time). If the player is confident he'll earn another max contract, and the salary cap is increasing at a healthy rate, the player stands to make more money by signing a 3-year extension. Even if the salary cap moves very little, the player doesn't stand to lose much at all (although there is still the risk that the player doesn't get a max contract after those 3 years). This should be more common under the new CBA, as the cap on raises is smaller (7.5 and 4.5 v. 10.5 and 8).

More in-depth but more or less what I was saying. This is what your agent does.

Why were you saying wrong then?

So what's your answer to the puzzle of winning a championship? Because this isn't one.

We have our picks, we need to bring in a supporting cast.

We had a chance in 08 to get to the finals. 09 we were set back by injuries.

and in 10? Our cast was older and less effective, and we didn't replace them with as good players.

Reacting game to game and throwing away the assets you have isn't a championship strategy either.

Nice. And how many team have spent YEARS in the lottery trying to get "that franchise player"?

So because some teams have failed at surrounding that player with talent once they get him (Cavs with LeBron, Minny with Garnett for a few examples) we just accept we will never get that player and settle for being middle of the road forever?

Terrible. And that's why people are tired of this treadmill that you are so obsessed with.

That's the point is the Jazz will never get that FA so they need to draft him.

You may be content with that mediocrity but I want more than a team that caps at the 1st or 2nd round.

People are mad because, as you acknowledge, we don't know how good Favors and the other young guys can be because they are hardly playing.

I think we know how good Monroe will be along with Paul George and others in that draft class and the year after because they are getting lots of time.

If most of our four bust we need to move on to the next until we get that franchise type player not commit to mediocrity and Being the Hawks forever.

For the record, I'm not scared to change my opinions as the facts change, but I have been pretty consistent. The second Deron got traded, I've said the Jazz need to dump Al and have been consistent about that. I also said the approach to Corbin should be wait-and-see, not immediate extension because.

And honestly, I don't see a lot of people wildly changing their opinions about this team from game to game. Most people that are actually paying attention and are honest with themselves know this team as is is going nowhere.

What "assets" are being thrown out?

And who is reacting game to game?

Pretty sure people just want to commit to our young core and see where that takes us instead of this bring in a vet, or keep a vet to stifle their growth model they are employing.

Because we have a glut of bigs that all need time.

Meanwhile, the Jazz are trying to maximize their assets, and you bitch.

Good. But that is not the general twitter reaction and game threads.

Benching Al and Millsap for Favors and Kanter is throwing them out. You are telling teams, "Hey, we don't want these players anymore. Give us **** for them." If you pretend like you are going to keep them it creates more value for them.

Not to mention if a team really wants one of them, and they feel like they can't (or really can't) pick them up in FA, they acquire his bird rights.
