What's new

The official countdown til Dragic thread.

Kanter + Trey B would be a good deal for the Suns for Dragic. Jazz would have to be able to sign Dragic long-term for it too work.

I don't get why people think the Suns are so willing to part with Dragic. Their three guards have been thee main reason for their success.

Apparently there have been articles saying that the suns have leaked that they want to trade him...... and they are not even asking for much (a draft pick)

Seems like a lot to me. A couple month rental for a first round pick? That is only worth it if you think he will push you over the edge to win a championship. There is very little chance Jazz sacrifice anything for Dragic right now. Maybe they go after him in the off season though.

I think Suns will try to move Isaiah Thomas over Dragic, in hops they can re-sign GD. I think a good suns trade would be:
Thomas to Bulls for Taj Gibson.

Suns need size and Bulls need scoring. Gibson has become expendable with Gasol and Mirotic there and is supposedly unhappy with the situation. Thomas gives Chicago scoring off the bench and in the forth quarter. Could do trade straight up or also include Miles Plumlee and Aaron Brooks, which makes it even better for both teams. Neither team lose size or back-up PG.

Its a risk for sure but normally to get an all star caliber player you have to give up more than one draft pick. That is why I'm saying that they are not asking for alot.

Maybe you have alot of examples of trades made in the past where a team gets a proven all star caliber player for a late first round pick.
I can't think of any scenarios like that though

The main reason to trade for him is the opportunity to sign him for more money than anyone else. The benefit of Dragic is that he can play the point, but he's a legit combo guard as well. Flexibility allows to to use Burks, Exum and Dragic together in various combinations. If DL truly does want to keep Kanter, trading for a guy to maintain his Bird rights makes a lot of sense. Can't make a run for him in the offseason without cap space. Wouldn't mind trying to land Middleton for Kanter and then flip a pick for Dragic. Jazz 2016 pick is way more valuable than any of the other assets I've heard suggested brother teams.

That would give them

Gobert, Favors, Booker, Novak and the rights to Tomic for the bigs.
Hayward, Middleton, Burks, Hood, Jingles and LilSap for the wings.
Dragic, Exum, Burke and the rights to Neto for point guards.

Plus then they'd keep their 2015 picks to add depth. And the MLE, depending on when and how they use it.

Gobert, Favors, Hayward, Middleton/Burks, Dragic - Burks or Middleton, Exum, Booker, Hood, Jingles, Burke and the 2015 pick off the bench. Not a bad group TBH.

The Lakers, 76ers and Nuggets all payed quite a bit to rent Howard, Bynum and Iguodala for a season. Sometimes you have to take that chance. Jazz probably could have outbid the Rockets for Harden. Even if it cost them Kanter, Burks and a handful of premium draft picks, it would have been well worth it.

Yep.
A first rounder for dragic is a risk cause he might leave next year.

But it's a STEAL if he stays with the jazz.

Worst case scenario he leaves next year.
We still get to watch the rest of this year with an exciting team and see how Hayward, favors, gobert and the rest look with a guy like dragic in the lineup..... and we still have all of our core intact next year. Still have a bright future. Not a huge loss

**** a first round send em Kanter.

With our luck we'd give up the draft pick that ends up being the #1 pick. Lol

That's why teams protect picks now. The Jazz can protect the pick to keep that from happening. If they were to do top 10 protection (2015), top 5 protection (2016) and the lower of the 2017 between the Jazz/Warrior picks. Suns definitely get a 1st round pick and it likely ends up as the 2016 pick, which could possibly be better than other picks teams will likely offer.

I'm not sure I'd only protect top-10 this season. There's a good chance the Jazz end up in the 11-12 range and the prospect pool is pretty good even that late. Best I'd offer for an UFA with less than a 25% chance of staying is the worse of the 2017 picks. But Suns aren't going to want a pick that far out.

Dragic is a great player. But bringing him in results in more wins and puts Dante back on the bench...unless you move him over to SG. Just not sure you want to mess up team chemistry and dynamics for a player who is extremely unlikely to remain.
