The official FFS sign Udoh thread

Hey @infection

My Sauces (okay Tim McMahon on the Windhorst Pod) talked with Ekpe Udoh at the Houston Utah game... said he was palling around with his old Jazz pals. Said he asked him about playing for Houston and he was like "oh... that's kinda interesting.." Like maybe they already had some conversations. It wasn't a big deal, but thought worth mentioning.

Can you imagine the meltdown if he signs with the Rockets? I don't think he can actually do anything until they settle what is going on with the season... I think he could lose some serious money... not sure how they get paid (during the season pro rata or at the end) or what the guarantees are etc. They may release the guys that have NBA spots as a goodwill gesture so they can keep the talent coming in the future. They may start the season back up in April which means all those guys are off the table.

I don't think we're in the driver's seat here, no matter how many times we call Epke reminding him that we're interested. Unless I'm misunderstanding, the Rockets are one of the teams (Nuggets, Thunder, among others) that have more than the minimum to offer buyout candidates. Jazz are not. See this article.

As much as we wish they would make an attempt I doubt the team ever even reached out to him at all.

I doubt the Jazz make any move period unless a serious injury occurs. The Jazz business model always seems to be to honor guaranteed contracts and get to the 2nd round of the playoffs as that is where the profit is made.

God forbid we go for...the third round of the playoffs...or the Finals!
