I'm going to predict no big trades will happen in the offseason. We may or may not have the GS pick. We do have the Memo TPE. This team is just starting to come together and Harris, amazingly, has discovered how to run the P&R. Jefferson is just a STUD offensively and a good mentor in that respect for Kanter and Favors.

Enes still has a lot to learn and Favors is susceptible to foul trouble. I think KOC will maintain the status quo in the front court unless there's a deal which brings Utah a near all-star in exchange for Al (or Harris) + the pick. More likely is to use the TPE + a pick to bring in a player.

I'm also going to predict Tinsley and Howard will want to return to the team.
 
I really like this roster. I still think Bell needs to go. And I'm not sure why we would need Howard to stay. I'm starting to think CJ should be retained if he's cheap(unless we get the GSW pick and get a SF). I have also been fairly impressed with Carroll.

I am on the fence with Millsap. I think Favors is simply better in about every way than him.

Will be a very interesting off season.

I am no longer on the fence with regards to pick or playoffs. I want the playoffs and believe they actually have a shot at #4.
 
I've been a Jefferson defender even through February. Do I think he'll spend the rest of his career here? No. Was there any reason to trade him this season for cents on the dollar?

No. He's a hard worker and good for locker room chemistry. There was and is no reason to ship him out.

Keep Tinsley and Watson. Both good for the locker room, both capable of stepping up. And both understand there role--could you imagine either one of them pulling a Raja and complaining about minutes? They know that they're getting their checks either way, and to just support their team as asked.
 
I can agree with Harris, but I just don't see us keeping Al and Sap (mean, I think we will trade one, keep the other). They will both have so much value this season, especially with both big men playing great.
 
Another reason to keep both is contract leverage. KOC simply presents each with an offerafter next season and tells them the first to sign will remain with the team; the other Utah won't be able to afford.

If the Jazz get GS' lottery pick, then either Howard or CJ won't be back; you have to assume BPA will be a SF, unless Lillard really impresses in his workouts. Outside of the Sac game, CJ has put together a string of good games, particularly on the defensive end. But he might want too much. KOC needs to do the same with CJ/Howard as I suggested with AL/Millsap. Give them each an offer and see which one will take it. Carroll has also looked ok in limited minutes. Maybe with the emergence of Burks as an outside threat, Carroll could play SF when Alec is in the game.

And yes, Raja needs to go. Waive him if needed.

I agree it will be almost impossible to keep them both. At this point in time I would rather keep Jefferson than Millsap. That could change in a hurry though. If Millsap would just accept a role off of the bench I could see them keeping both. But I'm not sure he'll accept that. And right now, Favors is better.

Carroll hit some shots in this game as well. I'm wondering how good of a shooter he can be.

This is/was a significant argument for Al leaving - "We need a point guard." Salty Dawg argued up a storm to show that the marginal increase you get from trading Al is not worth it and now that Harris is showing well, that conclusion is even more true. Certainly this same logic applies to the other positions as well. But really, who on the list of players is available or even desirable instead of Big Al? Name the all the players that have a skill as exceptional as Big Al's 'go to scoring' who is available for Trade? (Kobe, Lebron, etc are not available) Rondo and Pau are the only ones that i recall mentioned at trade time. Next, name up and coming players that could be had for Big Al? Would you trade Hayward, Kanter, Burks, Favors for Big Al today? Only if you have some form of redundancy that one is expendable. I don't know of any situations like that. Maybe some of you do.

I think KOC simply had no legit offers to consider at trade deadline. (And if you think it was because he was over-valuing big Al, suggest some value for him.)

Not sure why Millsap has to accept a bench role. I don't think Kanter will be ready to be a full time starter until his junior year. Favors/Millsap could be a good starting duo for the next 2 years.
 
Agreed with some others here, Jazz would be idiots to trade away Captain Harris.
I like Big Al too, but the frontcourt is so deep and stacked, it makes sense to get rid of one guy at that spot to upgrade in other areas.
 
Odd man out has to be Sap, been saying it since last year. Sucks sorta but its true. NO ONE gives us the O that Big Al does. Favors can give us what Sap does, IMO, plus some.
 
I think it would be foolish to get rid of Millsap. I'm happy Big Al is here for now but I don't want to re-sign him. Millsap is a Jazz man, and he would work great with Favors and Kanter.

Because both Jefferson and Favors are better than he is right now. And Favors is getting better. Kanter may not be ready to be the starter yet but Favors is. Millsap is no better than Jefferson on defense and Jefferson is far better on offense. I don't even mind Millsap finishing games instead of Jefferson but most of the minutes there should be going to Favors/Jefferson and not Millsap.

I have to agree. Millsap is probably the easiest guy to like on the Jazz, but he is probably the best trade chip as well. Good player. Favorable deal. Jazz have the depth to lose him and not really take a huge step back.
 
I would extend Millsap. I appreciate that we're winning currently and that everyone is happy, but the fact that Jefferson will be owed 15 million next year will create a lot of issues next season that peoria won't appreciate from the vantage point of our current 6 game tear. These are some of the same psychological reasons why people will typically buy high and sell low. As tough as it may have been to swallow, and as honestly difficult as it is to say it given our current run, it may have been good to trade Jefferson for Kaman. Unless this year continues and we have a good playoff showing (which I think we have a few doom-and-gloom skids left that will cause the board to come back down to earth) I'm not sure how realistic a trade scenario this summer is wih Jefferson that involves us not receiving bad salary back while getting something valuable. Of course, we will likely be calmed in thinking we'll just deal him at the deadline when his expiring contract will be "more valuable", which is a desert mirage, unless we will be willing to take back a toxic contract, which we won't be -- and for good reason.

Bottom line: priority #1 this offseason is extending Millsap.
 
I really like Al and Millsap, butt the writing is on the wall one of them will be gone by at least the end of next season. The challenge becomes which one can we keep for less money. I'm leaning towards Millsap because I think he would be the easier of the two to be our sixth man when Kanter is ready to start.
