The official "let's impeach Trump" thread

Byrd denounced the KKK in the 1950s! Back then, the Democrats were the slightly more conservative party.

Even in trying to provide an example, you proved your contention incorrect.

Yep. The Dems lost the south when they backed Civil Rights for blacks. The racists switched parties, which makes today's Republican arguments so stupid. "Party of Lincoln" haha

Yep. And it’s not like it’s that difficult to get educated on these matters. Kevin Kruse is one of the best historians in the nation and he’s extremely active on social media making history easily accessible and understandable:

byrd’s story:

realignment of the parties after Civil Rights were passed:

Furthermore, just use common sense. Which party supports African American groups and causes? Which party runs more African American candidates? While which party runs candidates like Steve King and receives the support of the likes of David Duke? I mean, this isn’t exactly difficult to understand.

Why are the dumbest and/or most poorly informed almost always Trumpers?

Oh, that's easily handwaved away. Blacks in America are being taken advantage of by the Democratic party who have put them on the plantation that is government support. They are just too easily misled to see through this.

I'm am so fed up with people who support Trump. They are one of two things:

1. An ignorant slob, i.e., they need to educate themselves not only about the history of our country, what totalitarianism actually is, the difference between communism and socialism, and most of all the personal history of DDT aka Donald Trump
2. They're so ****ing stupid that they need to go back to grade school.

I disagree. I think most of them are simply partisan and will always vote for and support any and all politicians from their party. Which the more I think about it probably equates to your 2nd example.

I disagree. Not after all that’s happened over the past few years. In order to still be Trumper or Republican signifies one of two things that @Eenie-Meenie mentioned:

1. An unbelievable level of ignorance. These are People who still dispute whether Russia interfered on Trump’s behalf, can’t find ukraine on a labeled map, see no difference between Obama’s kids in cages and Trump’s, think the tax cuts helped them, misinterpret the trade deficit with the actual budget deficit, and think that the wall is being built. These are your older Facebook family members who always fall for the chain emails about liberals outlawing religion and phone calls about some princess in a foreign country needing help. These are people who have been so disconnected from politics and have maintained ignorance that their ability to vote should be considered invalid. Id even throw in a few posters on here in this club. People who you’ve explained things to hundreds of times but they just don’t get it. Bro I swear bro, I won’t mention names, but bro I think you know who I'm talking about bro...

2. Those who are so deplorable and lacking in character that they KNOW trump is a moron but stick with him anyway because money is more important or because he hurts others. They like Trump because growing up they wanted mightily to be popular but never could. These are people who lack character and so their claim to fame now is being contrarian. They want to STICK it to the establishment. Whatever the establishment seems to be at the time, African Americans, tolerant people, academics, politicians, journalists, immigrants, etc. these are people who love Trump because he puts brown kids in cages or calls women ugly. These are people like Tucker Carlson, most of Trump’s cabinet who have left, and 90 percent of the Republicans in office. Steve King, Nunes, Gym, Moscow Mitch, John Bolton, they all know Trump is a moron. They all know he’s guilty. But Trump beats up liberals, immigrants, regulators, etc someone they hate and generates money for them.

So to summarize, to be Republican today you must either be living in cave figuratively or lacking so much in character, they I don’t really care to interact with you.

You're going too far here Thriller.

"Conservative" is bigger than a set of political ideas to a large swath of the country. It's an entire identity.

When you see people who get sucked into con artist schemes, multi-level-marketing schemes, religious sects, et al and they just continue to double down, they are really defending their past defense of the concept. They NEED all the negative information to not be true. To confront things as they actually are is just too threatening.

There can be "good people" (this is apart from the parallel Charlottesville discussion) who are kind of willfully blind. You're probably related to a bunch of them. That doesn't make them vile or ignorant, they are just plagued by bad ideas.

Let's dissect this conversation. Another poster made the claim that white nationalists always align with conservative politics and challenged me to prove otherwise. Instead of wasting time on that I pointed out that communists align with liberal politics. Now it may be true that neither his statement or mine are 100% accurate because there might be occasions where communists pull for the conservatives because they believe their policies will collapse the system and bring about their utopia or where KKK members like Robert Byrd align with liberal politics, but I think it's a fair point that extremists can generally be found at the extremes. If you want to go down some rabbit hole in relationship to these arguments have a great time, but I'm not going with you.

Let's be honest here man - you got cranked because you spoke from a place of assumption and ignorance. Just like when you were all in on Burisma/Biden and hadn't followed the timelines, or when you didn't know what was going on with Shokin/Firtash and all of John Solomon's reporting.

Your news sources are not your friends.

Now let's look at your actual strategy, as described by you. You were presented with the claim "white nationalists always align with conservative politics." You chose not to "waste your time" and instead made a (now demonstrably incorrect) parallel claim about communists. First of all, that is a classic deflection. You did not, in any way shape or form, actually dispute that white nationalism and current American conservative politics are in alignment. You just tried to make the conversation about something else.

So you've actually just kind of let the original point stand. I don't think you've actually examined it, at all. So let's go for this again. And we'll work on it from base blocks as opposed to just parroting things we see other places. 1) do you actually believe that because Robert Byrd was a member of the KKK in the 1940s that this means white nationalism and the Democratic party share a common cause in any real sense; 2) do you believe that there is any correlation between Republican party identification and white nationalism; 3) what would any correlation of those two things mean to you?

Yes. I have many of them on my side and I lump them into either (1) ignorant/stupid or (2) lacking in character. To be plagued by bad ideas in this day with such easy access to much more reliable information is deplorable.

We all of these relatives. These people who are single issue voters and/or get a sense of identity through their political affiliation.
  • The thrive divorced cousin who owns more weapons than Camp Williams, goes out every weekend to the west desert to shoot stuff, and feels he's the true victim of Sandy Hook because someone dared propose he undergo a background check for a semi-auto.
  • The mom who feels like women shouldn't have any say over their bodies and that Kavanaugh was railroaded by that sleazy lying professor woman.
  • The uncle living in rural Idaho who claims to be concerned with illegal immigration and not just with immigration. Yet he's constantly cracking racist jokes and thinks there are "fine people" on "both sides."
  • The aunt who feels that the police can do no wrong and that pro athletes on knees during the anthem warrants crucification.
  • The grandma who feels her religion is under attack because Utah passed a law that said that gays were living breathing people.
I understand all of these excuses. It's like eating a big pile of cow manure with a cherry on top and calling it a sundae. "YEAH TRUMP MIGHT DO XY AND Z THAT I DON'T LIKE, BUT AT LEAST MAH JUDGES!" To me, it still comes down to:
1. Ignorance/stupidity
2. Lack of character

If after ALL we've seen of Trump for 4+ years doesn't disqualify he and his party from your favor, then you should be called out and shamed (if necessary). If you get your identity by supporting a party that puts kids in cages, kisses Putin's ***, laughs at recently deceased Congressmen, chants for political opponents to be deported or jailed, then you need to be called out. These people shouldn't be coddled. They've been coddled for far too long anyway. That's why they think this Trump stuff is actually acceptable in today's society. It's time to wake up and join the rest of us in the 21st century. You don't have to agree w/Democrats on everything. I'm fine having a vibrant debate on what construes as "modest gun reform" and "abortion rights." But if at this point you're still voting Republican? You're ignorant/stupid or lacking in character.

People need to be ashamed for voting for Trump and supporting this deplorable GOP. It's the only way to cleanse it and restore a conservative political party. That, or another party takes it place while the rest of these deplorables stick with their white nationalist GOP.

I hear you and completely get your point. I agree with it for the most part. That said, one of my buddies loves Trump and he’s (my buddy, not Trump, the latter’s a POS) a great guy and has said he’s voting for Trump again because it keeps more money in his pocket and the sky isn’t falling as many (respectfully, perhaps yourself included) say in this country. He’s tired of liberal programs that dole money out to those in need, many of whom do nothing but suck off that teet. Liberal programs that have helped virtually bankrupt every state in the union. I’m paraphrasing but I understand that general sentiment, and respect it, and can see how both sides and their policies are fatally flawed.

It's the military-industrial complex that is the biggest entitlement and sucked off the teat of the government, and what do they do with this money -- KILL PEOPLE, all in the name of some bs threat to our national security. That is the biggest myth of the modern era, the creation of enemies so we can make these fat cats who make arms rich and use our big stick to control other people.

I know those arent your thoughts but I find that kind of thinking funny.
People get pissed about poor people getting small handouts and sucking off the teet. Yet don't care about rich people getting enormous handouts and sucking off the teet. That's weird to me.

And also reflects probably 70%+ of the constituencies of both parties tbh.

This is not comedy. I repeat, this is NOT comedy! This is something someone posts on their facebook because they believe this.

I get it. I had friends like this too. That’s why he’s most likely to be put in group #1, he’s an idiot (politically) and ignorant. Just curious, what’s your friend’s education level and what does he do for a living?

  • Nearly every state in the union has been bankrupted by liberal programs? Really? That’s some good stuff. Good meaning completely false. Most states aren’t “bankrupt.” And aren’t close to going bankrupt. The states with the most budget issues are red, like Kansas and Oklahoma. The results of tax cuts. Are tax cuts liberal policy now? :)
  • What actual evidence does he have showing the abuse of liberal programs? I want actual studies, not Limbaugh or Hannity segments. What impact would Would cutting all “liberal programs” have, both positive and negative?
  • If made king of the Union for a day, which specific programs would he get rid of? Food stamps? Social security? Medicare? SNAP? Can he even specify one liberal program that needs to be cut and explain the overall net benefit? Imagine cutting all Medicare and social security today. Does your friend have grandparents? Does he hope to work until 80?
  • Does your friend ever criticize the “welfare” going to big business? Or is he only angry at the liberal safety net programs that help the elderly and less fortunate? I’ve yet to see anyone from the right criticize stuff like this:

Fedex literally cut its taxes by BILLIONS and has actually cut investment in job creation. The exact opposite of what they promised to do.

Has your friend ever ranted about Trump’s handouts to try and maintain support in rural swing states?

So while your friend may rant about the single mom who’s getting a few hundred for food stamps, his ignorance and/or stupidity prohibits him from realizing that a company like FedEx is ripping off billions or farmers being given handouts to try and maintain their support in key electoral college states.

and remember, I had friends like you’re too. I’ve found to either educate or not discuss politics with them (group 1: Ignorance). Or there hace have been some, who I’ve told them that their politics are so disgusting that I no longer care to associate with them (group 2: Character Flaws). And yes, I’ve done this to a few people (3 that I can think of. 1 a family member) who truly lacked so much in character that it took so much of a toll to interact with them on political matters that it destroyed our relationship. Which is fine honestly and probably needed. People with abhorrent political views need to be called out, shamed, and social ties eliminated. I’m happier for it and I hope they someday will change their racist and bigoted beliefs.
