I don't buy that his own staff met with the whistleblower yet he doesn't know. I also don't buy he can keep a person protected without knowing. I also think we already know who the person is.

My opinion.

It makes sense that his staff didn't tell Schiff who the whistleblower is to protect his anonymity. And it's not like Schiff is personally responsible for his personal safety, beyond protecting him from getting his identity compromised by congressional Republicans who clearly have an axe to grind against him.
