Every time someone listens to someone they "interperet" what the other person is saying. Every time the media listens to someone they "reinterperet" it for their audience. Every time Trump or someone associated with Trump says something outlets like CNN, MSNBC, ABC, New York Times, Washington Post, etc. reinterperet the words in the worst possible light. They are obscenely biased in their reporting.

I have called Trump out for those sorts of things. I've even done it recently in this very thread (not just in the post that you are responding to).

Ya I listened to the dude and interpreted what he said. I didn't reinterpret anything.
You listened to him reinterpret himself and took that for truth.

He said two different things in two different places to two different people.
I'm going to go with the one he said in court over the one he said to fox news

But but but.... That was taken out of context. He didn't really mean to. Later he told fox news that he actually stood at attention with his hand over his heart and that video was just fake news so I'm going to reinterpret his actions as super respectful to the anthem

Tons of people, democrats, were pissed. Many of them stayed home, didn't vote because of it. Show me someone who was "fine" with it.

But let's be clear on something, the DNC is NOT a government entity and primaries for their party are not held to the same legal standard as the general election.

In your reality the fact that it's clear what Dershowitz really meant doesn't matter. Instead you and others like you want to cling to a soundbite that allows you to feel damaged despite the fact that what he really meant makes perfect sense once you allow him to clear up the misunderstanding.

Here is my take on what he (Dershowitz) did. He meant what he said in the moment. He was floating a trial balloon to see if it would get shot down. When there was an immediate negative reaction, he backtracked and gave a plausible explanation for the statement. Had there been no negative feedback, he would not have changed/clarified his statement.
It is still in the congressional record. Did he care enough to request a correction to the record? Someone who cares could look that up, if they wanted to. I don't care enough to do it myself.
This kind of thing happens all the time when administrations want to test ideas.
My problem is not with the lawyers. They are doing their best to win their case. That's what lawyers do. My problem is with the Senators who act like this is a nothing burger. They agree that the House made its case and they don't need to hear additional evidence. Then they say it doesn't matter just because there is an election around the corner and the people can decide. Ignoring the fact that the President was cheating in that very election.
There is now zero incentive for the President to abide by any rule or law in his efforts win this election. Of course this is the height of hypocrisy. Is there anyone who believes for one second that if any Democrat acted with the same disregard for election laws, they would receive the same carte blanche? The Republican party has forfeited all their moral authority by this power politics play.

Interesting. He may be correct that it would not be impeachable under the constitution. Clearly he agrees with us that it would be terrible. I think it's cosmically unlikely that any such scenario would ever happen so it's not really worth worrying about.

What's the point? Impeachment is completely worthless. Trump can literally do whatever he wants and there will be no repercussions due to the Senate believing the president can do whatever he wants without repercussions.

I’ll never understand people who use the actions of “the other party” to justify gross actions by their own parties. Hypocrisy isn’t cool. But apparently, for republicans, hypocrisy is actually encouraged. Just last night a bunch of them spoke out against the halftime show.
