The official "let's impeach Trump" thread

How would you like to live in the district that put that yahoo in Congress?

For those not wanting to use Twitter, here's what she had to say.

Asha Rangappa:

I had to take a little break from political Twitter to gather my thoughts on how the GOP is responding to impeachment. I find that in the face of gaslighting, it is useful to repeat things that we know to be true, and then assess the choices from there. To wit:

TRUTH #1: Donald Trump did not win the 2020 election. He could not accept this outcome. Because of his inability to accept this outcome, he manufactured a Big Lie that he *did* win the election, and put all of the official powers at his disposal to force this to be the case

TRUTH #2: As part of this effort, he attempted to 1) shakedown the Secretary of State of Georgia to manufacture 11,780 "extra" votes that would give him a victory in that state; 2) conspired with officials at DOJ to manufacture false cases of voter fraud in Georgia and 3) rallied his supporters using the Big Lie to convene in Washington, D.C. to "fight" against Congress' Electoral College certification. When this became a violent insurrection at the Capitol, he refused to use his power to either verbally disavow that insurrection or use his official authority to permit the National Guard and other reinforcement mechanisms to protect the official and constitutional functions of a coequal branch of government. In so doing, he violated his oath of office.

TRUTH #3: His words and actions, in addition to his failure to act, resulted in the death of 5 people, including law enforcement officials, and the threat to the lives of members of Congress and his own Vice President.

TRUTH #4: If he had succeeded, it is unclear what state of functioning our democracy would be in at this moment.

TRUTH #5: There are members of Congress who subscribe to the Big Lie, and are effectively representing the interests of the domestic terrorists who invaded our Capitol in our democratic processes. https://t.co/kA7nwPBve4

Reasonable people cannot disagree on the above Truths. The question is how whether and how Trump should be held accountable for #1-5. Impeachment is one option through which he can be held accountable, and specifically whether he should be barred from holding office again.

If Senators hide behind procedural arguments for why Trump's actions cannot be adjudicated in an impeachment trial (on which the weight of experts agree is permitted), then they are avoiding, but not answering, the question of accountability

So the only questions to ask these people is: 1) Do you believe Trump should be held accountable for his actions? (yes or no) and 2) If not an impeachment, then how? (i.e., do they go on record as conceding that criminal prosecution is OK?)

Underlying both of these questions, of course, is the more fundamental question of: Do you disavow Trump's Big Lie? Unless GOP are willing to go on record saying YES, then they are 1) saying the insurrection was justified and 2) Trump should not be held accountable, ever

Sounds like nobody wants to be the lawyer arguing that the election was stolen.....

“Mr. Trump had pushed for his defense team to focus on his baseless claim that the election was stolen from him, one person familiar with the situation said. A person close to Mr. Trump disputed that that was the case but acknowledged that there were differences in opinion about the defense strategy. However, Mr. Trump has insisted that the case is “simple” and has told advisers he could argue it himself and save the money on lawyers. (Aides contend he is not seriously contemplating doing so.)”

Good 'ol pillow guy. Nut a scum ball at all. Nope. Just a good guy selling **** pillows. Not even creepy all that much, once you get used to him.

Aha!

The connections between Roger Stone and the Proud Boys are too many to enumerate, though some starter articles are worth reviewing: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6. The upshot is that Stone is considered to be “affiliated” with the Proud Boys, and that indeed they are, per the Daily Beast, his “personal army.” He has used them as bodyguards on countless occasions. So with the FBI now alleging that the Proud Boys premeditated the Capitol breach on January 6, Stone becomes a critical federal witness; not only is he close to the Proud Boys, including their leadership, but he spoke at multiple events in DC that the Proud Boys appeared at, raised money for their “protective equipment,” was in regular contact with their activist-organizer liaison Ali Alexander—a personal friend of his—and even went so far as to say that he had been asked to “lead” the march on the Capitol (an offer whose source is unknown, but which Stone says he declined).

“So, hopefully we have this today, right?" one supporter asks Stone in the video, which was posted just after 10 a.m. on the morning of the rally. "We shall see," Stone replies.

It is not known to what they were referring.

Stone has maintained that he played "no role whatsoever in the Jan. 6 events" and has repeatedly said that he "never left the site of my hotel until leaving for Dulles Airport" that afternoon. He has also decried attempts to ascribe to him the motives of the people around him.

Imagine if Clinton or Obama had done this to try to swing the election in their party’s favor. Think Fox News and the right wing would’ve been angry? @colton is this impeachable?
