It's also been pretty standard tactical warfare for centuries. Take out the enemy's supply lines. Means for energy production and funding qualifies. Those are great targets frankly. If they have this drone capability they should be going after electricity generation and oil refinery as well as the oil fields directly.

Especially since House Republicans seem dedicated to block any military aid to Ukraine. Sadly, I think we’re going to have to wait until democrats retake the House, hold the senate and White House for any hope of additional aid. Russia has been doing this since day 1. I have no problem if Ukraine responds in kind. Although, I think one could make the argument that civilian casualties in Russian cities might have a rally around the flag effect, boosting support for Putin and his illegal war temporarily.

Can be. But if it can be shown to be central to military infrastructure it's valid. Can't take out substations in downtown Moscow but you can take out plants supporting military bases even if ancillary effects hit the civilian population.

It actually significantly predates the second world war but the rules and laws in regard to war have changed over time dating back to the time of chivalry. The problem with international law and the rules of war is that they are not really enforceable or more accurately are selectively enforced. Im actually surprised that American serviceman have been tried for war crimes committed during the war on terror, i had assumed that the last significant convictions had been as a result of the war in the Balkans.

Trump being POTUS may have played a part due to nobody being sure what he'd do, but the list of actions taken to keep Russia off balance is long. This single most important one was to arm the Ukrainians with lethal weapons, which no US President prior to Trump had ever done. Beyond big moves like that, I'm not sure there was a 60-day stretch anywhere during Trump's Presidency where his administration didn't act is some new way to hamper Russia. Trump's time in the White House consisted of a lot of smiling and saying something nice about Putin while knifing him in the ribs. Mostly the American media ignored the pool of blood and multiple oozing stab wounds on Trump's favorite pin cushion to fixate on how nice Trump was being in his comments towards dictators. It wasn't dumb coincidence that Russia was quiet during Trump's time in the White House.
