Atlanta could’ve been a scenario. New York (they’re trying to have cap in 2021 and this wouldn’t get in the way, they’re also short ‘good guys.’). Portland and Brooklyn could be others. There are a million ways to get to between ~$1 million and $7 million in matching salary.

And the question is, was there a guy that a team was willing to move, that makes the Jazz significantly better, that was worth giving up their young players that they are developing to reach that salary. I don't know. I don't get to see Brantley, Oni, NWG, Morgan, Tucker to match salaries with. Bradley took 3 years, but he's a valuable role player right now (much better than Davis). Morgan is starting to see some time in certain situations as well.

There may have been some scenarios where Jazz could have made a trade to get marginally better this year, but unless you get someone that can play PF/C, then there aren't many minutes for them. They already have Mudiay at G on the bench getting DNP's.

The point is this. Jazz made a move this year, they got Clarkson. It may end up being the best in season trade for any playoff team. It would have been nice to get someone, but its hard to see where there was an obvious move to be made right now given their lack of assets.

The only thing I really was asking for was Ed Davis’ salary off the books for next year and an opportunity to open a roster spot this year and next.

Sorry, I misread. I think Davis' contract next year made that too difficult. His salary next year won't be an issue. They will be able to sign Clarkson with Bird rights and will have the full MLE I believe. If they had someone in mind, they could buy out or simply cut Davis.

Davis’ money is guaranteed next year and would likely make the Jazz choose between being under the luxury tax or using the full MLE. Davis’ money isn’t much, but it’s big enough to be a big problem in the context of the Jazz.

To be clear, I assume it would take an asset to get off his money (which, again, for numerous other teams would not be problematic salary).

I’m hoping the Jazz can work some magic in the offseason regarding this but it’d sure be nice to have that peace of mind now and that roster spot (or an actual NBA player) now.

We'll see what they do. I feel pretty confident that Davis won't be on the Jazz roster this time next season though.

I thought Conley’s perimeter defense was very good vs the rockets.

It was. But our defense overall has been really iffy during the losing streak (and in some sequences during the most recent wins). Bogie, Ingles and even Royce have had some rough nights on D.

Donovan's had his share of struggles on D as well, and Conley hasn't exactly been great either. Pretty much all of our perimeter defenders have been struggling.

Yup. I think Conley was very good against Houston and overall solid since coming back: hasn't been great but at least he has stayed disciplined on defense. Also, to be fair, he is usually getting the easiest assignment on D. Donovan have had his ups on downs, losing focus in several stretches (just like in offense). I didn't even mention Niang because I thought it was pretty obvious.

How? Jazz have nothing to trade of value. They are keeping Clarkson, Bojan, DM, Gobert. Ingles and O'Neale can't be traded. Nobody is going to give anything significant for Conleys contract. Nobody wants Ed Davis' Contract. Bradley, Niang, Oni, Brantley, NWG, Tucker, etc... Jazz aren't getting anything from them. They can't trade a 1st round pick until about 2025.

Anyone who thought the Jazz could just go out and get a good wing defender for nothing. It doesn't work like that.

Yup. There were no options. Have no idea how folks could be disappointed.
