The Trey Burke Thread

I love you Cy but what do you think he's doing, playing at half speed? Some guys just aren't that quick and he's one of them.

I think he holds the ball too long and is too cautious. He needs to put his head down and drive more. It will result in mistakes, but it will also help is game grow.

HAHAHAHAHA Ill crush you in a pissing match on this subject, Whats the basis behind that statement?

Ive seen all the Exum footage to be found, read all the local articles on him throughout the years. I vehemently disagree and can produce a ton of footage of him going left with spectacular results. He also finishes well with his left hand around the basket.

I'll start with this.. Isnt his "signature crossover" going left?
Hahaha, I love this guy.

No homophobic ish doe.

After 1 year, I am still in support on Burke. I think he can be a solid player in this league as well as for the Jazz. I also think his mentality and the toughness he's shown will be an asset for this team. He has that intangible that I don't see Hayward having.

How many years of basketball have you coached? Just wondering, not trolling.

I just don't get what people are talking about when they say Trey's to slow or can't get into the paint?

He's plays the game at a great pace which allows him to make high IQ reads. He makes the defense commit before making the pass or taking the shot. It's what PG's that are seasoned veterans do. That pace puts serious pressure on the defense. So long as Trey is connecting on that mid range jumpers the bigs have to make a split decision on PNR whether to sag down to defend the roll man or step out to defend Trey.

Trey isn't Russell at attacking the basket, but that isn't necessary and again neither is CP3. Go watch videos of Chris Paul and after you watch his superior handles(which he has improved apon year after year his handle was more on par with Burke's year 1 and 2), but he isn't explosive to the rim and he puts that same pressure on the defense with pace and great decision making.

Howard was behind Paul. Dunking near Howard require similar athleticism as this block.

There are studies out there that link early TO's in a young players career to success. Players who don't take the risk and just play it safe (what Burke does a lot of the time) don't grow.

Trey could not have been drafted into a better situation. He came in with some of the worst PGs in the league on his team, making him look better than he is. I was hoping he woulf take a leap forward this year, but if last nights game is any indication, he has stayed the same. It was a weak draft, and hindsight is 20/20, but imagine Exum pairing with MCW in the backcourt. Or having giannis at the 3. Maybe he isnt a bust, but he was a poor choice imo.

So playing under a coach with a terrible offensive scheme, on a team with limited shooters, with inexperienced players, and used improperly was the best case scenario?

That's interesting. Can you link me to some of these studies?

Damn, Burke averaged 5.7 APG his rookie year by playing it safe. Would love to see how much he would average if he took "risks".
