I think that is PGAB's point, he is saying we will get "moral victories". He isn't saying we won't be good, just that it will be nearly pointless because we actually have no shot, and in his eyes that is worthless.
Quick Question: Is Durant more likely to stay if GSW wins the championship or loses the championship? Or does he stay in OKC long-term regardless?

It is absurd for anyone to suggest that there is a way to plan around and build your team in response to super teams being created. The only thing that is more out of touch is looking at every draft pick after yours and saying how much better you would be if you had a 100% success rate with drafting the perfect person. If KD and Curry can figure out how to play well together this will be tough for a number of years but it is what it is. There is no excuse for not making the playoffs this year but other then that I have no problem with the way we have worked on baking the cake and I am a big fan of what they are creating. If what you want is a super team to cheer for then just jump ship when a team pulls it off and change logos. Go Jazz.

Personally, I was in favor of moving Hayward (not for #3 but for a future BKN pick or 2). I certainly have reservations about tying our future to a mega-maxed Hayward but I still love the additions that . That being said, had the FO known that a potential 5+ year powerhouse was about to be assembled, I would hope they would have changed their approach.
However, they made the decision based on the information at hand along with the general consensus was that Durant would return to OKC. Outside of drafting the next LBJ/Durant/Curry (which is unlikely but worth the risk IMO), the chances of this franchise ever winning a championship were low to begin with.
It's not the approach I would have taken but I certainly don't blame the FO for doing so (when considering the current circumstances). Nonetheless, this team still has a bright future (even if a championship isn't in the cards). Irregardless, I will root for them until the day I die (& beyond). Go Jazz!

Actually, no it isn't painfully obvious. Even if you stockpile draft picks, the odds of getting a true superstar (a la LeBron, Durant, Curry) remain remotely small. Do the math. Of the 182 some odd lottery picks over the last 13 years, how many have turned into superstars that have led their teams to Championships? How many top 5 picks? (I count Lebron and Wade.) While I concede that getting top picks are crucial to win Championships, the odds of getting that elusive superstar remain small and determined as much by luck as planning. Meanwhile, the team continues to suffer from one losing season after another always stockpiling picks, always going with youth or trying to build around them, always rolling the dice to win the lottery, a la Philadelphia. Frankly, by then, I've lost interest.
This Championship or bust mentality is, in my view, strange. The odds of the Jazz every winning a championship are small. If you can't enjoy the ride without winning a championship, I don't understand why you remain fan. I'm not advocating for a certain type of fandom, but I can't imagine that it's fun being one if every second is full of angst and despair over not winning a championship.

The only way to "kick the can down the road" is to go Philly. How many games do the Jazz still win with Gobert, Hood, Favors, Exum and Burks? Trading Hayward wouldn't make Utah a bottom-3 team.
We were competitive against GS in the first game when Burks played (and with ****ty PG's). You can't blow up the team on a guess that GS will sign Durant.
Nor are they guaranteed to win multiple chips. Lacob is wealthy, but how much tax will he pay, especially as the tax becomes 2x if W's are repeat offenders. To afford all 4, W's are going to have to be very thin on the bench in 2 seasons.
Jazz' window was likely 3-4 years out. The NBA landscape could be completely different. Maybe the title favorites will be Minnesota by then. You never know.

If PG_AB made that suggestion, he's negated everything else he's said. So you swap GH for HB and are still "kicking the can down the road?" I used to respect PG_AB but he can't have it both ways. You either go full rebuild or win-now. He was advocating win-now UNTIL the Durant decision? Guess DL should have found himself a flux capacitor so he could have foreseen Durant going to GS and traded Hayward on draft day.

In 2K16 he can reload his game when something like that happens, can't do that in real life.
PG-AB does not even realize that the Jazz ARE following his plan and snowballing the team. The Jazz are taking a long slow deliberate approach. They rolled TB into a 2021 pick. This years draft is projected to be worse than most, there could have been someone OK but no better than Hayward and certainly not the type of star he is seeking. Jazz have multiple first and multiple second round picks next year in a draft projected to be better than average. Jazz still have one of the youngest teams and youngest cores. Jazz are still below the minimum salary. Jazz did not get suckered into paying crazy money to crappy free-agents. They got short term deals so that they can be better now and focus on a better draft next year. Also, the Jazz still have Hayward. If at the trade deadline someone wants to offer a boatload of picks we can still trade them and in a better draft.
