The worlds tallest building being built in 90 days?

According to its engineers, this will be the tallest skyscraper in the world by the end of March of 2013. Its name is Sky City, and its 2,749 feet (838 meters) distributed in 220 floors will grow in just 90 days in Changsha city, by the Xiangjiang river. Ninety days!

It's not a joke. According to the construction company, the skyscraper will be built in just 90 days at the unbelievable rate of five floors per day.

They have done 30 stories in 15 days before apparently:

220 floors in 90 days is 2.44 floors per day. Call me skeptical on this one.

Can't wait to see it implode on itself after they use faulty welding (substituted for crappy Chinese chewing gum), cancer-giving insulation, lead paint, and backwards wiring. But that's okay because they built it fast! The building itself was made out of straws. But boy, didn't they construct those straws quickly?!

A building that is going to have soooo many stories better damn well be built to be strong and to last not built for speed. I'd suspect a lot of crappy construction on this one. Combine that with it being Chinese... Yeah, any doubt has now been eliminated.

The only question is, how long will it take us to learn of it's failure (since, obviously their government will never let any media report the implosion) and just how many thousands of employees are going to perish?

The real issue is not structural integrity....it's that this type of thing catches on and Chinese cities become even blander than they really are. That building is ugly.

Still, it's cool. This one building is cool. The timeframe is cool. It won't be cool if they throw up 100 more of them in the coming years.

I definitely hope the engineers are in charge of this project and not a bunch of politicians. All of the engineers I have known are passionate about design, efficiency, and safety but you never know who is really running the show.
