What's new

the worry thread

Lol, GoBert is the real star on the team. Hayward has a reputation that exceeds his game. Good for him. I would move him while he is still thought of as gold and not fools gold.

I guess, Mission, you won't accept the wisdom of the overwhelming majority of the people on Jazzfanz not all of whom are Hayward homers. There is no doubt that Hayward is a creator for both others and himself. If you deny that, then you are in SERIOUS denial, and you need to go for counseling.

We'd be on a 10 game winning streak now if not for the brutal schedule and discussing if we can move up to #2 instead of unpleasant stuff.

I'm kind of worried about Exum's development too but before the season I already decided to consider him an actual rookie and he's on a deep team, so.. Overall there is relatively not much to worry about except Favors' health and Hayward's potential departure (Dude had signed with Charlotte last time, one of the worst teams in the league back then, just because of a few dollars more)

Our cornerstone player in Gobert is under a long-term contract and we have a lot of quality assets going forward so we should be fine.

agree with some of this stuff, but what are these quality assets you speak of?

*We have our own picks and two late-first round picks
*Exum has very little value
*Favors' value has plummeted
*One could argue Lyles and Hood have regressed

The point of the worry thread is to wonder about whether we will have the bullets in the chamber when we need them. Relative to the beginning of the season, our asset pool is down. Substantially, I'd say.

We need to cash in while they still have value.

I saw dwill and boozer go when they were top 25 players. Dwill was arguably the second best pg in the game. Others stepped up with a less deep team. Now our team is deeper Hayward would be a loss. But imagine Hood or Burks could step into that role nicely.

I'd not worry about Hood much and I don't think he has regressed this season. In fact in the first quarter of the season he was a top-5 SG in the league, playing good on both ends and having impressive advanced metrics. People forget we could not have done this well when undermanned without Hood .. Injuries, illnesses happen.. let's not be the prisoner of the moment. He's tradable.

Burks is on a good contract, he's tradable (though I'd not trade him, he brings a unique skillset to the floor). Hayward is tradable. We've got picks from the OKC and GSW, three 2nd round picks and no outgoing pick. We have a good record this year so our players overall have more value now. Most teams can use Jeff freaking Withey. JJ is doing great, a contender may use him. Our backup PGs have value. Overall we have zero untradable contract. Favors's value is low but he's on a good contract. Though as I said before I'm worried about his health, he's way behind the team.

As you say, things may not pan out but even with all worries one may have, the Jazz are in a fantastic place with young talent aplenty and virtually no long term deadweight contracts... This means that the team has the flexibility to adapt next season and pull something off. Again might not pan out but a great situation to be in.

I think the writing is on the wall in regards to Favors. I'm not really worried about anyone else but Favors.
