What's new

THIS JUST IN: The Associated Press reports Mountain West, Conference USA combine for 22-member

Without knowing all of the details just yet, it sounds like they may just be merging for a conference title game at the end of the year. If it's enough to sway some of their key members from bolting to the Big East, then kudos. If that's enough for the BCS to grant them AQ status, even more kudos.

Werd.

Might as well get the WAC in on this somehow. Hell, get the Big East involved and just create two huge-*** conferences that have an inter-conference championship game for AQ.

I know. It's out there.

This idea is crap, though, if the Big East just grabs BSU, Air Force, (Navy,) and UCF, though.

I guess you'd still have Hawaii and Nevada? And... uhh... East Carolina? I'm just guessing now.

Safe bet that this is where Utah State ends up. Or maybe the WAC, MAC, and Sunbelt try something?

College football is officially heading towards insanity.

Sounds like the Big East still has plans on inviting Boise St, Air Force, and Central Florida to the conference. If they decide to go, doesn't this MWC/CUSA merger mean next to nothing? No way are they getting AQ status at that point.

Boise State playing in the freakin' Big East? At least me and Duck agree on something. This is insanity.

Southern Mississippi is a fairly good Football school.

The Big East will get Notre Dame. You heard it here.

Notre Dame has no desire to join a conference in football unless the Big East dissolves, super conferences emerge, and ND has no place to stick all of their other sports because the big conferences won't take them unless it's membership in all sports including football.

Brian Kelly was just on Mike and Mike this morning and pretty much said all of that. He said ND was glad to hear that the Big 12 was staying together because it staved off super conferences for the time being and that allows ND to operate as an indy which is what they prefer.

I know all this. And stand by what I said. Just watch as things unfold.

Notre Dame to the Big East in football is about as likely as the Notre Dame to the Ivy League rumors from a couple of weeks back now that Syracuse and Pitt are no longer in the Big East, and the Big East is on the brink of not existing.

22 schools. That's full retard.

Amen to that. And even if the Big East grabs a few, they are still going to have something like 19 teams. Moronic. I am so glad that BYU left the Mountain West. Yes, I'd prefer the Big 12 to independence, but at least we don't have to be a part of this.

What if Boise, Air Force and Central Florida all stay put and this new MWC/CUSA merger results in an AQ bid? Do most BYU fans still feel that independence is better than being a part of that?

That would depend on which TV deal gets implemented. Exposure is key. Getting access to the BCS money every year is vital. So, if they had a deal with ESPN and/or national tv stations, I would prefer to be a part of that new conference.
I don't think this new conference gets an AQ, though. Even with Boise St.
