What's new

Through Jesus, I am defined by being God's child.

Through Atheism, I am defined as Nature's child. A dynamic entity capable of great and beautiful things.

Through life, I am defined as a source of energy. How I choose to use, manipulate, and distribute that energy is up to me.

Through biology, I am defined as my mother and father's child. A dynamic entity capable of genetically limited actions that may or may not be great and beautiful depending on circumstances.

There is no emotion, there is peace. There is no ignorance, there is knowledge. There is no passion, there is serenity. There is no chaos, there is harmony. There is no death, there is The Force.

For those that don't believe in God, do you believe in a type of afterlife or seeing family members/loved ones again? Or is death the end of everything?

End of everything? End of consciousness perhaps. Assuming you're buried, your body will decompose into the soil fertilize the ground and allow for more life to grow.

Most people are buried in caskets or creamated so that doesnt happen.

Regardless of your personal beliefs cherish your life, your families lives, your friends lives, and everyone who makes an impact on you lives. You'll never know when they'll be gone. Life is awesome because of those we know.

Dinosaurs didn't exist... at least on Earth. Let's use logic here. The biblical geneological timeline can be traced as far back as 6000 BCE. Radio-carbon dating is irrefutable, and we can date even homo sapiens to 200,000 BCE. Dinosaurs are dated to 230,000,000 years ago! So what gives?

Clearly what we are seeing here is Earth was combined via chunks of other recycled planets. Those planets had existed previously with their own skeletal deposits of life forms, and those deposits included dinosaurs and other archaic species.

Since most of us here are God-loving Christians who want to retain our faith, this is the best theory. I know it seems a little strange, but if you keep trying to believe it, it gets more and more believable. Weird how that happens, lol.

So in essence faith is the rejection of one's own mind. Rejection that the way in which we, as intelligent beings, interact with the world should be the result of thinking and reasoning. Rejection of our individual responsibility to understand this world as it is, rather than the way we wish, hope or desire that it is.

Anyone can convince them self of any fantasy they desire if they try hard enough and actively evade the facts that contradict their fantasy.

That's my take, anyway.
I've yet to read the rest of this thread, but this was perfect.

Why would that be a problem. That is the whole point of faith, stepping out of your comfort zone and testing something. You may find that you take that step of faith into the darkness, only to find your way is lit for a step or two. I am not so blind that I say if I cannot see it or touch it, it must not be true. I have explained how anyone can test it, it's not like I'm saying just trust me. Try it out for yourselves. You don't even have to tell me about it..... it just requires some desire, honesty, and yes.... a little faith.
In my experience, the more dogmatic someone is, the less likely they are to step out of their comfort zone. It's far easier to allow yourself to be fed "eternal truth" and "everlasting salvation" than to try to figure things out, with the knowledge that you have a very short amount of time to do so.
