Thank God we didn't get hurt and have to wait in line for days for sub-standard care. Knawtimean?
People wait in line for days? I find that hard to believe.

Hyperbole, bruh.
So what are you saying? I can see longer wait times as more people would actually use health services when they're socialized. But I don't see how that in any way outweigh the fact it's free. And as far as the quality is concerned, I understand that Canada has a top rate health care system, like the U.S. or any other developed nation. I'm sure the U.S. is better at the high end of care, but we also have MANY problems on the lower end. Wasn't it TheSilencer who posted an article about the ASTOUNDING number of avoidable deaths that happen every year in U.S. hospitals mainly due to negligence.
I don't know if universal health care is better. But the current system is very clearly in need of fixing, and I am very saddened whenever people stand in the way of a solution due to misguided ideological reasons.

Wow, that was quite a reach of a response.
First of all, my post was nothing more than light-hearted ribbing.
Secondly, nothing is 'free.'
Thirdly, most would agree our healthcare system is in need of changes.
Fourthly, the only thing I would ever stand in the way of is making something worse than it already is .. but we're not really discussing any specifics here, just fun.
I don't disagree with any of this. Sorry if it was a bit of overreaction. Plenty of people use ideology to justify the status quo in health care. And I simply find it incredible.
We talk about general medical system affordability. I am not saying that Canadian system is perfect or that our doctors are better, waiting lines to see specialist sometimes can be ridiculous, but when it is free you can't argue much about it. See my original post , I said free medical system - to me it is better then overpriced USA system which will eat all your life savings if you get seriously sick.
Tough decision or ridiculously false dichotomy?Go broke or die because of the long waiting list? Tough decision.

I just can't help it sometimes.Took the bait, huh?
Go broke or die because of the long waiting list? Tough decision.
Let's get back to common sense, please.

My friend lives in New York, he broke his hand it cost him $2500 to get it fixed. Here you pay nothing for brain surgeries if you need one. USA medical system is most expensive and disgusting money grabber in the world. If best metal musician ( IMHO ) Chuck Schuldiner died because he could not afford life saving surgery that tells a lot about medical care in USA. Had he been in Canada he may have still lived.
Never said it is best in the world. Better then USA's for most of the people due to affordability. Of course if you are millioner USA has better to offer. But even Kobe Bryant went to get his knee treated in Germany.
My point was about average people. You were talking about quality of USA doctors. Bryant example was that even millioner who can afford to pay for the best and most expensive doctor in USA could not find one to help him and needed to go to Germany to get it done - thus quality of USA doctors is not that great at the end of the day.
But I am not arguing about quality of USA doctors at the end of the day. I am looking at perspectives of average Canadian and USA citizen when facing serious injury or disease. Great if you have lots of money in USA. Not so great if you do not. So average Canadian facing serious disease is better in that regard vs average American - which was my point in original statement.
https://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/7796225/kobe-bryant-dr-chris-renna-regenokine-knee-treatmentThe reason Kobe, A-Rod, and other athletes travel to Germany for their biologic treatments involves a vague FDA regulation that mandates that all human tissues (such as blood and bone marrow) can only be "minimally manipulated," or else they are classified as a drug and subject to much stricter governmental regulations. The problem, of course, is figuring out what "minimal" means in the context of biologics. Can the blood be heated to a higher temperature, as with Regenokine? Spun in a centrifuge? Can certain proteins be filtered out?2 Nobody knows the answer to these questions, and most American doctors are unwilling to risk the ire of regulators.
Serious emergencies are seen right away. Long waiting lists are only for non emergency procedures... ACL tear for example. So you have a choice to wait 1-2 month and get it done for free or pay ~$5000 and get it done in few days. I guess to each it's own.
. Even Estonia and the Czech Republic are less religious European countries then Norway and their economy and standard of living is pretty ****.
Have you ever been to Estonia or Czech Republic? I was driving through Montana last summer and stopped by little city called Browning. You know, it looked like I am in some 3d world country there, to bad I did not take pictures of crappy motel or dirty houses with broken windows. Never I have seen such ..... standard of living in Czech republic or Estonia. Don't talk about things you have no clue.
