Today's Yahoo Canada pool about religion

Have you ever been to Estonia or Czech Republic? I was driving through Montana last summer and stopped by little city called Browning. You know, it looked like I am in some 3d world country there, to bad I did not take pictures of crappy motel or dirty houses with broken windows. Never I have seen such ..... standard of living in Czech republic or Estonia. Don't talk about things you have no clue.

Either you or I misinterpreted tbs's point on Estonia/czechrep.

Chuck Schuldiner died of a brain tumor. I don't know why he didn't have health insurance but he was not denied life saving surgery despite that. In Canada Schuldiner would have had to wait 6 months for the mri that detected his tumor, costing him valuable time.

being non mainstream musician as most of them at that time he did not have insurance. Fans and other metal bands bands raised over $100k to help him with surgery costs. Nobody was doing life saving surgery without money, nobody. When after 2 years tumor reccured they offered another surgery which he could not afford this time. He was send home from the hospital after treatment with experimental chemo drug and died at home next day - you can just imagine what condition he was, yet hospital kicked him out home because of money.
In Canada we do have options for private MRI, US or CT scans if we do not want to wait. 6 month wait period for free MRI for serious condition like brain tumors is a lie. You get it done fast if it is necessary.

Most Americans get health insurance through their employer and receive great treatment for serious injuries or disease.

Well it is nor free right? You pay of insurance.

The average ER wait is 23 hours.

Not true. From my personal experience and experience of numerous friends who went to ER it is more like 2-4hrs.

Not everyone.

Well the reports show that you guys are the exception not the rule.

Natasha Richardson died on a Canadian ski trip because they didn't have a basic medical helicopter system or within close proximity to a CT scan that an American resort would have been. The Canadian rationing system killed her.

Seriously? I like you a lot, but please lets not be ridiculous.

That is, that Ms. Richardson turned away the paramedics who arrived on the scene at the ski slopes to help her as soon as she hit her head. She sent them away, telling them she was fine. It was almost two hours later before her companions called for emergency help again. In that time, her brain was swelling and bleeding -- but she wasn't calling on any health services at all, not in Canada and not in the United States.

At the bottom line, it made no difference which country she was in, or which medical system might have served her needs. To suggest the Canadian health system failed her and that's why she died is ludicrous. Ms. Richardson turned away the medics, then went to her hotel room with a headache -- and no medical system in the world can take over a patient's personal responsibility to take a ride in an ambulance or dial the phone to seek the care she needs.

what reports? please post link. Different provinces may have different waiting times as well as different cities and hospitals. Don't tell me that if you went to ER in USA with non life threatening injury/ilness that you are seen right away and do not need to wait.

What percentage of Americans do not pay a single $ for insurance provided by their employers?

I was thinking of Medicaid and VA. Before you go off about taxes, how do you think Canadian healthcare is funded?

Everything I find has Medicare included and Medicare parts B, C and D have monthly premiums so I do not want to count them.

In 2008 Medicaid alone had about 49 million enrollees. Add VA to that.

What do you all thinkt he odds are that Gloria Allred will hit back with somethign on Romney?

I say 90%.

At the end of they we are deviating from the original post. Post was not about who is better USA or Canada or Estonia. Point was 61% of people in Canada consider themselves as non religious.

Well I know who would win in a fight...

For the record, I love my healthcare, and I love my cheap tuition.

Carry on.

And that's what really matters. If a Canadian doesn't like it, move to America. If an American prefers the Canadian system, teleport there.

This is why I prefer more of our taxes staying more local/regional and less federally controlled programs. I'd prefer the opportunity to choose a local government that suits my needs without having to wish the whole country would suddenly change course.
