What's new

Tomic offered buyout:

This is so ****ing worth it you guys. I literally started intensely following the Jazz two weeks before their 2010 playoff run (loved Wes Matthews). Game 3 against the Lakers sold me on the NBA-- Korver was possessed that game.

The 2011-2015 era was cruel. I'm surprised I hung on. I don't even know how I did, really. Mostly because of Jazzfanz.

All I can say is that we've come so far as a team, and it's beyond ****ing exciting that our team is about to break through into relevance again. Cannot ****ing WAIT to see ppl underestimate us (as they always do), and **** on every small-ball lineup thrown our way. Bring on the goddamn season.

I would put off picking up a vet PG for this season. Let Burke and Exum figure it out for one more season. At the end of 2016 is when we figure out what to do with our PG situation. Will Burke be a good back-up? Is Exum gonna be a solid starter? Ship Burke out if he's useless. Shift Exum to an Iguodala role and sign a vet-PG if he isn't cutting it. Pick up maybe one more shooter. Use the 12th pick to get the best shooter we can get.

2017 is going to be our ****ing year, guys. I can feel it.
I agree with this. PG doesn't need to get figured out this offseason. They have 4 young guys to look at (Exum, Burke, Cotton and Neto) and the option to try Burks at the 1 as well. Plus they could draft another guy for developmental purposes (especially a draft and stash type of guy). My guess is that they give Exum another full year to see how his development is progressing. If PG is still a weak spot at the deadline, they might look at making a move. . . but I'd expect them to address it next summer. The development (or lack of) by Burke, Exum and Burks (depending on his role) will determine how they move forward. Not enough info yet to make a decision.

Yes and no. There's a lot of guys they could have hired that would have screwed up this young, developing roster. They ended up with one of the top player developmental coaches in the league. That can't be underestimated.

Imagine Alvin Gentry with this roster.

I don't wanna

Go ahead and imagine it. The tank is dead. Quin stared it to death early last season. That's when I knew we wouldn't be getting a very good pick in the draft. Guy is too intense to let the young guns sit on their laurels or continue to stumble in mediocrity.

Here is my favorite plan for the Jazz this summer.

1. Offer Tomic what it takes to come over. Jazz will have the money for the next 3 years (then they have to re-sign exum, hood, Favors and Hayward). Probably a cap of 8-9 million per, but doubt it takes this much.

2. Trade up for either Johnson or even better Winslow. Use GS pick, next year protected, OKC pick, Burke, even Booker if it helps. Johnson or Winslow can be a stretch 4 on the bench and defensive stopper against sg/sf/pf, draymond green type role.

3. Draft a development PG in the second (Harrison?). If Burke is traded or doesn't improve next year, they can find a vet PG for a playoff run in 2016/2017. Next year is still a development year, but they should be able to make the playoffs.

4. Go out and kick some major booty!

Exum/Burke(if not traded)/Cotton/Rookie PG
Hood/Burks/Milsap
Hayward/Rookie SF/Ingles
Favors/Booker or Rookie SF
Gobert/Tomic

I love this potential lineup. Would all be together (except maybe Booker and burke) for the next 3 years also ready to kick butt and compete for a championship.

Just wanted to add some important information because people is assuming the buyout is the key for bringing him over. Gigantes reported two days ago that Tomic hasn't signed the extension yet. They agreed in principle on the extension but it seems he is just buying some time until the Jazz can make an offer (leverage baby!). His contract expires in July if I remember correctly, so the buyout is not an issue. It comes to the salary and perhaps things like his role on the team, quality of living in SLC compared to Barcelona, etc.

Anyway, I'm taking every bit of information with a grain of salt until he signs a contract either with us or Barcelona. Too much he thinks/says/it's believed....

If he's only agreed to terms, it actually makes me think that the Jazz got hot and heavy about showing their interest behind the scenes. Adding Tomic without having a huge buyout would be even better. I'd love it if they could make two moves this offseason - C and PG. Ante Tomic is a better fit for the Jazz than any veteran big on the market (and likely at a fraction of what he'd cost on the open market) and signing him would give the Jazz the depth needed behind Gobert without overpaying in free agency this summer.

Thanks for posting. Repped.
