What's new

Too much scheming and not enough athleticism or talent?

If you take the first half or the Nets game and 2nd half of last night's game we lose by 60. Bradley, Green, Davis, Exum and NWG are gone. Who do we blame this on?

Honestly its mostly Bojan and DM if you ask me... they have sucked thus far.

I’m sorry - which was I doing?

nah not u specifically.. but to directly answer your question; too much focus on what the coach and his schemes or rotations arent accomplishing and not enough on what the players arent accomplishing.

When Mike Conley is out there making a fortune and getting outplayed pretty much across the board by Elfrid Payton who makes as little as any starter in the league, that is on Conley not the coach....

To me the QS blame is misplaced, if he's to blame for things its for giving his ok on asinine deals like the one given to Conley... and for a draft pick such as Grayson Allen...

CONLEY and the front office! I dont come here to trash talk him everyday but If u actually look at that game last night he got whooped by elfrid payton and deserves to get called out for it.

BB, DM, QS, DL, and the list goes on.

But to me, primarily DM, then QS, then DL, in that order. Bojan needs to get better but he gets a minor pass for surgery and missing a lot of time. It isn't easy to pick it back up. But he is still responsible.

Having either one of Darius Bazley/Kelson Johnson/Brandon Clarke would have made me feel so much better about this team right now. Wonder what it took for these teams to get these guys

As time passes the more i realize most of the basketball forum posts i see across the interwebs can be filed under 2 categories;

-Unnecessarily blaming the coach for everything

-Unfounded/Unwarranted praise for the backups or 3rd stringers

For some strange reason lots of people have lots of energy to dedicate to these things... It's not just here, it's ubiquitous on all the forums i frequent.
You forgot to mention the people who blame our starting point guard for our struggles because of a single bad game when he has otherwise been our best offensive player by far this season.

I think there are two things that get overlooked.

1. Quin's strengths were Sloan's weaknesses, but Sloan's strengths are Quin's weaknesses. One of Sloan's greatest strengths was getting his team to play HARD and RUN the schemes tightly. Sloan could NOT improvise well, adjust or draw up new plays out of a timeout. But all his teams played hard right from the jump ball. I'm sure Quin wants to treat them with respect and like adults, and that they should be responsible for getting themselves ready for game time without their coach having to resort to calling them names - he's probably right.

2. I think there is also a problem with the Jazz that has to do with our DPOY and it's one that other DPOY teams have had. In both San Antonio and GSW - they have had to challenge their guys to play defense - and not just watch KWAHI play defense, or watch Dray get into your man. The coaches have had to remind these guys to play defense - and not just watch. I see a lot of Jazz players watching Gobert. Letting their man get past them and expecting Rudy to pick them up. Rudy plays the helper - and then nobobdy comes over to help-the-helper. Jarrett Allen got more than half of his points when Gobert was guarding Kyrie Irving and the help-the-helper player who was supposed to box-out Allen had not. They stood there and watched Gobert guard Kyrie. Kyrie made the right pass - Gobert tried to switch again and guard his man - but he can't guard two players at once. Especially not when one of them is Kyrie.
