Tough Day To Be In Law Enforcement

Exactly. Good post

Lol. You guys are refuting they need more training after the cop shoots a guy because of how they're trained - if they feel their life is in danger they can use lethal force.

Just maybe... just maybe... with more training they could have resolved this with a better outcome.

You might think it's the cops lacking common sense but you're being short sighted on what their job entails. They go to work every day not knowing if their going home alive.

Just read more about the shooting and who Blake is. Looks like he's paralyzed now.

It's gotta be hella traumatic for his kids to have witnessed it.

Does anyone know what lead up to the incident? Why were cops trying to detain/arrest him?

It's easy to Monday morning quarterback cops. That fact of the reality is people do kill cops and those disobeying orders are unpredictable.

I'm certainly not condoning the shooting, I'm just capable of understanding it from a different perspective.

The lack of common sense by, usually, both involved in these shootings hits the nail on the head.
So, basically what you are saying is that the actions of the suspect condone lethal force no matter of the circumstances?

Or he knew he could get away with simply shooting the man because he thinks he can get away with it

This mentality is probably our biggest difference.

I don't know what the cop was thinking, nor do you.

I'd like to think cops aren't waiting for the perfect time to get away with murder. I'm sure some do and have, but I'm not going to universalize that thought. Simp.

I watched the first 4 minutes. It looked very selectively edited.

But yeah, you mix in right-wing and left-wing protesters nowadays, that's what you get.

I was in Portland 2 weeks ago and it's only getting worse. That place is a disaster zone right now. It was really really sad to see.

You only shoot because you feel it's last resort and it's justified. If you shoot, it's not to subdue, detain or injure. Regardless of proximity to the suspect.
The only question is should he have fired his weapon?
The Police should never and wont ever be trained to shoot in the arm or the leg.
Obviously as he shot him multiple times at close range. There was no need to kill him. He was right there. One none lethal shot was all that was required and he shot him 4-5 times.

The point is if you are that close, and choose to shoot, why not in an arm or leg?
1) it is a smaller target, and moving more than the torso does, increasing the odds you miss and hit something unintended, like a bystander.
2) it is much less likely to contain the threat, and more likely to elicit erratic behavior
3) it can be every bit as lethal as a shot to the torso
4) it goes against basic LEO training, which states, in a nutshell, shoot only when you feel there is an immediate threat to your life or the lives of others and shoot to stop that threat, which is only guaranteed with a torso shot.

This is a movie myth. Shooting the gun out of the hand, shooting on purpose in the arm or shoulder or whatever, it's all crap. It's far far more dangerous for all involved to try some movie **** like that.
