Trade deadline discussion

That historic offense is super important to our success... So Rudy, Donovan, and Mike are non-negotiable... they need to be on the floor. With the main lineup are you replacing Royce with a better defender or Bojan? Those are two critical floor spacers.

So then do you swap out JC or Joe for the wing defender to share some minutes with Rudy? Both guys have a critical role on offense in some units so the defender needs to be able to replicate some of that role.

Its just such a tough proposition. To swap out Joe or JC, plus some distant draft asset and find a defensive upgrade that won't murder the offense. And please do so while decreasing salary if possible. We are trying to find the most desirable type of player that all nba teams are looking for.

The Jazz look quite different defensively when Royce is replaced by a bigger wing. Royce is tough and plays hard, but he's not big or long enough to disrupt big wings, and he's not quick enough to guard talented scoring guards. If the Jazz are going to be small in the backcourt, I'm not sure they can afford to be small on the wing as well. I like Royce, but there are certain matchups he's vulnerable to.

I'm not saying trade Royce, but I'd want another option for certain matchups. That's why Rudy Gay was brought in, but Gay is looking pretty old right now. Honestly, the Jazz's problem is that Ingles and Gay are both pretty old. I really can't picture Ingles guarding Paul George like he did in the OKC series a few years ago.

Yeah, it feels blasphemous tbh.

This is how I would feel.

The thing I like about Josh Hart is that when he goes 3 for 14 from the floor, he can still give you 10 boards, 5 assists and a couple of steals. And when JC goes for 3 for 14, God help us

I could picture the Jazz having a conversation with Atlanta about swapping Jordan Clarkson for Cam Reddish and Delon Wright. Not sure if either side would pull the trigger. Jazz might have to add a little.

Does this look crazy? I know giving up Conley is worrisome, especially as I have no idea what Dragic has left in the tank.

I don't know how to value Siakam versus Simmons, so not sure how the Raptors would feel about this though I believe they were rumored to be one of the teams interested in Simmons. The Raptors do a mini rebuild on the fly with a player that probably compliments their other pieces better than Siakam. They could put out a lineup of VanFleet, Trent Jr, OG, Barnes, and Simmons playing the point center.

For the 76ers, Siakam doesn't make much for them which creates an opportunity for us as the third team. I know it is not the package Morey is holding out for, but might be about as good as he is going to get. A starting lineup of Conley, Maxey, Bogey, Harris, and Embiid would provide outstanding shooting around Embiid while keeping enough good defensive players on their roster to keep a balanced attack.

For the Jazz, they could have a starting lineup of Dragic, Mitchell, Ingles, Siakam, and Gobert. This lineup adds a lot of size and still surrounds Rudy with four good (enough) 3-point shooters. O'Neale moves into his natural role coming off the bench but could close games with the starters instead of either Ingles or Dragic if needing more defense. Milton gives the Jazz a replacement scorer off the bench for Clarkson. Siakam's age is better aligned with Rudy and Donovan to form a "Big 3". This obviously only works if Dragic can still play, but even if he could provide 75% of what Conley brings I think the size and defensive upgrades make it worth doing. You also get off of some longer-term contracts which might provide a little more roster flexibility for future years.

I know there several other players on the 76ers and Raptors rosters that might of be interest but assume they would be more difficult to obtain. That said, you could certainly try getting Thybulle, Korkmaz, or Watanabe instead of Milton.

Sixers are going to want more than that for Simmons and Milton, at least a pick or two.

Jazz are 0-3 when they rest Mike Conley. In these games, the Jazz have relied on Jordan Clarkson to provide more offense and instead he's stunk it up. That was the case in Chicago, Orlando and now at home against Washington. Clarkson was 1-10 from 3pt last night. He's now shooting 30% from 3pt for the season. FYI, Eric Paschall is also shooting 30% on 3s this season.
Forrest had 11 minutes and 1 point, 1 rebound, 1 ast.

There's been too few concrete trade ideas for the rest of us to tear apart in this thread, so I'll put in a simple 4-team trade just for fun:

Utah out: Clarkson, Azubuike, next available first-round pick
Utah in: Dillon Brooks

Memphis out: Dillon Brooks
Memphis in: Derrick Favors, Kenrich Williams, Utah first-round pick

OKC out: Kenrich Williams, Derrick Favors
OKC in: Juancho Hernangomez, Romeo Langford, Azubuike, Boston second-round pick

Boston out: Juancho Hernangomez, Romeo Langford or Aaron Nesmith, second-round pick
Boston in: Clarkson

My assumption here is that Utah and Boston are buyers here, so they'd have to give up the picks (unfortunately, I think we're going to have to overpay in the long run to get an upgrade this year), while as sellers Memphis and OKC would need the motivation of a pick to make a move.

My imagined motivations:

Jazz: Brooks ramps up the defense and ******* quotient. He's 6-7 and would fit the versatility we're hoping to add (not a rebounder though). Been better on offense than Clarkson this year.

Grizzlies: have show willingness to move players not on timeline (core is mostly 23 and younger) to allow younger players to get opportunities, and have very recently shown themselves to still be in acquisition mode. Maybe they'd be willing to move the 26-year old Brooks for some immediate veteran depth and a first rounder?

Thunder: dependent on not finding anything better for Williams and Favors; but as they don't care if they win or lose, may be willing to take a flier on a young wing and center prospect, in addition to the draft pick

Celtics: bring a little more diversity to their sputtering offense for the playoff push at the price of a few low-level assets

A trade with Boston seems extremely likely IMO.

Here's why:
A) Historically people (GMs) trade with people they have strong relationships with.
B) Same goes for Danny Ainge - when he made the big move for Kevin Garnett, he called up his old buddy Kevin McHale (Twolves GM at the time) - Danny gave Brad Stevens his first NBA coaching gig.
C) When Danny Ainge has made good moves in the past, he has often traded with teams that meet the criteria of A. Being severally over the cap, and B. Having no real shot at winning the championship.
Boston is scheduled to pay out 149 million dollars in salary next season (145 this season) and are currently the 9th seed in the East.

I don't know who Boston is looking to unpack to shed their bill, but Utah has Joe Ingles (expiring contract) and Boston has some things we could use. Namely, Marcus Smart (perimeter D) and Al Horford (D, Rebounding and 36% 3P shooting for his career).

I like Idiot's trade above as a 3 or 4 team deal might be what is needed here, but Boston I see only as buyers if they are buying young - so Clarkson may be a piece they accept and Ingles might be something they want for flexibility.

It'll be fascinating to see what the Jazz come up with before the deadline, as all signs point to them pulling out all of the stops to make sure they are championship material.

I think Charlotte may be a team that does a deal... and possibly Hayward is in it. They have a salary crunch coming now that Bridges is going to get paid. Can likely alleviate part of that with a trade or waiving Oubre's salary next year. I doubt they keep all of Oubre, Hayward, and Martin next year.

Not sure a deal makes sense on our end... but I'd bet that is a team that does something
