Joe is one of my all-time favorite Jazz players, but if he really is as washed as he looks right now then they pretty much have to move him. Even if it's just for a second round pick or something... open up minutes in the rotation for guys like House and Paschall and help with the tax. I absolutely that that it's come to this, but the guy just looks completely cooked.

Why are you messin with one of Quin's guys? The system is very fragile.

To get grant as a minimum you would need to give up Bogey. Not sure this moves the needle, in fact possibly a negative trade. Offensively Grant’s shooting percentages are much poorer compared to Bogey, therefore putting more pressure on Donovan to carry the offense. While he will add something on the defensive side, the perception is that Grant is a really good defender, however his defensive stats are not flattering.

But the biggest red flag is he is just playing to get paid and has said as much.

I don't think this is necessarily true. I doubt Detroit is interested in a guy that's about to turn 33. They're likely after draft picks and possibly young talent. A package of Ingles expiring and two first round picks might interest them, but I'm not sure the Jazz would/should be willing part with two firsts for Grant.
 
OK, an idea that might help all three teams in theory (depending on what you think about Clarkson); maybe something to think about if all else falls through:

+ protected first rounder from Toronto and a 2nd rounder from Utah to OKC

So this is:
  • Utah sends out: Clarkson & Azubuike & 2nd rounder; receives Kenrich Williams, Watanabe and more than $10 million salary savings (which is probably at least $25 million overall after luxury tax impact factored in)
  • Toronto sends out Dragic (who is not even with the team, I don't think) and protected first rounder; receives Clarkson, Azubuike and nearly $5 million in salary savings; reasoning: Raptors don't need to get rid of Dragic as they're just barely under the tax, but they're also climbing back into the race even as Nurse has lost confidence in his bench, including Watanabe (they played triple overtime last night with only 37 total minutes from the bench; Watanabe was CD-DNP); they sorely need a bench scorer, and their fans also want a true center with legitimate size (though Azubuike is unlikely to fill the bill in reality, at least he has more size than anyone else the Raptors have)
  • OKC sends out: Kenrich Williams; receives Dragic (who they'll very likely waive), protected first and a second round pick; they're far enough under the cap that taking on Dragic doesn't hurt them at all, but the picks are the price of doing business with OKC, of course
Jazz would then be loading up on collectively versatile (if not individually super high-quality) wing types, all of whom can theoretically shoot well enough to survive as 4th/5th scoring options off the bench in a pinch: Quin could have House, Williams, Hughes, Watanabe, Paschall to supplement the regular rotation as he sees fit (of course he's likely to not see fit to use any of them, unless one makes his way into the rotation in Clarkson's absence)

There’s about 15-25 individual guys in the league who fit the mold of what we really need. Some are off limits. Lebron, Durant, Giannis, etc. He’s a guy who’s not completely out of the realm of possibilities. Maybe for us since our assets suck. But not out of the question. Stop pretending like he is you ****ing twit.
