Trade deadline discussion

Don't really see it changing things honestly. They could do a trade with us for a lot of reasons... to get some breathing room from the tax for next year for instance. They still have to do something and it almost certainly involves Schroeder.

I still doubt Smart is really available but maybe the extension scares them a lot. If they want to swap J Rich for JC the tax math is a little easier without the AS bump for Brown but they still have to move Nesmith or Schroeder for less salary.
Do you happen to know what the actual math is? (I'm asking because I don't think I do.)

I mentioned a day or two ago that Spotrac showed $2.7 million for them to get under the cap, while Marks gave a figure somewhere under a million. Today when I saw about Brown's all-star bonus, I figured that that's part of the answer for why the two numbers differ, but it can't be the full answer. There are perhaps other bonuses that may or may not kick in that Marks and Keith Smith are counting differently?

But $1.4 million is a pretty big difference when you're that close to the threshold. It might turn out to be the difference between needing to find a team to take on a useful player or just finding a team to take on Bruno Fernando's salary, for example.

Clarkson and Ingles for Smart and Richardson is almost exactly the same money.

Adds like 16M in salary for next year and I think we are a repeater next year... so you need to be able to dump Bogey or that move would add like $80M or some **** to our already bloated payroll. Maybe you do it and figure it out later but they also likely want a pick in that deal. Maybe that is why Boston would consider it I guess.

I don't but ESPN trade machine has it at 3.8M and I think I've seen the 2.7M or 3M number somewhere. So lets say they are 1.5-2M but if he later is added in as an injury replacement you'd likely rather just make sure you are covered. I think they dump Schroeder (i get the feeling they don't like him anyway) they also want to play Pritchard more. Now that Smart is back Schroeder is expendable.

You don't want to make a 10-12M assumption so I'm guessing they cut the salary needed either way.

The Pelicans rumors are kinda crazy... the are after CJ, Fox, Eric Gordon (who hated it there), etc. I think JC is a great consolation prize they would absolutely go for. Rumors were NAW is available... so more evidence they want an upgrade there. They own a bunch of firsts... not saying you could get one, but if you can get like 2-3 seconds for JC and no returning salary or for a protected first and Sato (to use in a 3 team deal) it really loosens things up.

Its kind of the key to the 3-4 team trades we'd like to make.

What’s the injury landscape of the eastern conference and the likelihood of Brown being named as a replacement?

clearing JC off the books for next year also opens up the possibility of using MLE next year which could be very useful.

Jimmy has been banged up but I think Brown is probably behind a couple dudes.

Good. It will depress his trade value. Maybe instead of Clarkson for Smart, we can do Ingles and Clarkson for Brown to help them shave a cool million off the books.
